“Marvelous!”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

A pleasure staying at this wonderful B&B, a beautiful location with stunning countryside views. Found it ideally situated for a visit to near-by Bath. The owner, Frances, was a lovely host - providing tips on visiting Bath & where to go. As I've said in the title, for a quiet B&B, Shrubdown is marvelous!

We had a wonderful stay at Shrubdown. Frances was very welcoming and friendly. Setting was beautiful, room was very comfortable and clean, wetroom a treat and the breakfast was delish, plenty of it. Yes it's a bit hilly but the valley views make up for that. i'll be going back to explore the area and Bath's only ten mins away by train.

This B&B is a gem tucked away in spectacular country side so close to Bath and surrounding attractions. It was the perfect stress free weekend the owner Frances was welcoming and made us feel at home giving us the low down on things to do and places to see.
The bedroom was onsuite with great views across the Frome valley and a full tasty English breakfast was included with choice of cereal yogurt and fruit.
We enjoyed ourselves so much we intend to return.

Room Tip: We stayed in rose with views across Frome valley and large onsuite bathroom.

Pros -
* Comfortable bed and quiet in the evening, so a good nights sleep
* Lovely view from the back of the house
* Friendly family
* Varied choice at breakfast, and good coffee

Cons
* Treacherously steep drive - to drive up or walk up (thought we were not going to get out!)
* Cooking smells to the bedrooms - being directly off the kitchen, with one being directly upstairs of the kitchen
* Bedrooms are small (you can just walk around the bed) and abit tired, although mostly clean.
* Free slug in shower - which I will not include my photo of

We would not return

Room Tip: Mmmmm - don't think I can answer that one

This is old fashioned B&B you dont come across very often. It exactly fitted our needs and expectation.s We were met by Frances the owner, a lovely lady who couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful.
It doesn't pretend to be a boutique hotel. The room we had was on the ground floor, very comfortable and we had a fantastic night's sleep. Next morning, Frances cooked us the best breakfast we have had in England. We then headed off to Bath which only took us about 15 minutes. Frances helped us with directions and information on things to do etc. That evening when we returned, they were hand feeding the pet lambs they keep in their beautiful garden. This has to be one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, the views are great and Shrubdown's garden is full of birds, squirrels and places to sit. We were blessed with fantastic weather too whilst we were there. Price was extremely good value.

Room Tip: Best room is upstairrs room with corner bath

Mrs Cameron was very welcoming and the location was good for exploring Bath and the surrounding area south east of Bath. It is also cose to Bradford on Avon, a charming country town.
The en-suite facilities are very good and the rooms were clean, a very pleasant house. We enjoyed an exellent cooked breakfast, more than we could eat in fact, with lots of different fresh fruits, yougot and cereals to start with.
We had a lot of good advice from Mrs Cameron on things to see and were to eat in the local area.

Returned to Shrubdown after a year. Could not have had a better welcome. Frances the owner couldn't do enough for us. Everything was as good as the previous year. We loved our room on the top floor plus a big bathroom with corner bath, abundant hot water, room cosy. Television and mobile phone reception not so good due to the location in this beautiful valley near Bath. All downsides are well made up by the service, friendliness and the great breakfast overlooking the valley with abundant birds and squirrels in the trees just outside. The walks are great and they can arrange horse riding nearby if you want (we did and it was fantastic) plus you are just 10 minutes from Bath.
