Agriturismo L'Uliveto
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 2 January 2014 via mobile

You can never be disapointed with Agriturismo L'Uliveto. We have stayed here many times and find Piero and family to be excellent hosts. The rooms are most comfortable and warm and have been improved with air conditioning for the summer. The food prepared by Antonella is outstsnding. A most definite place to go to for New Year's Eve celebrations.

I recently did a short tour of the Abruzzo region and stayed for three nights at the L'Uliveto - and am so glad I did!

It's halfway between Polambaro and Casoli, so you do need a car to get there, but the natural beauty is wonderful, as is the sheer peace and quiet of the country setting.

Filipo, Antonella, Pietro and Daniella were welcoming and generous hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. I don't speak much Italian at all, so the first night I relied on a travelling companion - but by night 2, I had obviously absorbed some of it, because I was able to understand much better and speak a little...or maybe that was because of the locally produced, totally more-ish wine! Deep velvet plum colour, almost black, and smooth as silk, which defied the ratio of glass to hangover size completely, and I woke with a clear head every day!

I had a very comfortable room with two single beds, a good sized bathroom with a shower, and a stunning view of the Maiella mountains from the balcony - November, and there was snow on the mountains and sunshine in the valley - gorgeous!

As an agriturismo the L'Uliveto has to produce 60% of what it presents to guests to qualify for tax relief. So, the milk for your breakfast coffee comes fresh from one of their cows each morning, to help wash down the homemade bread, prosciutto, cheeses, jams, and loads of sweet muffins and cakes, all either made on site or bought locally.

The dinner consists of lots of courses if they have groups in to dine - one night was seven courses (I bailed at #5!). We were lucky enough one night to eat just with the family, and it was wonderful - made to feel like a member of the family, and I was truly sorry to leave.

Room Tip: They have ground floor rooms for people with disabilities - otherwise, be prepared to carry your cas...

Daniella and Pietro were very welcoming and they made our stay most enjoyable. Even our late night arrival time did not remove their smiles! The meals were good and our rooms etc likewise. The views from the rear are amazing. As we are likely to visit the region again, we are sure to see if we can go back to l'Uliveto.

We stayed at L'Uliveto for a week at the end of June and it exceeded our expectations. The en-suite room was excellent and our gin and tonic on the balcony was enhanced by the beautiful views. The family could not do enough for you and the food was superb. The evening meals, usually 4 courses, were extraordinary and included was as much wine as you could manage with liqueurs offered. On the Sunday of our stay the family played host to neighbours and friends for a very long lunch and we lost count of the courses served, 7 at least. Each evening you sat on a long table with other guests and the family in a very convivial atmosphere. It would help if you are reasonably fluent in Italian but not essential. Beautiful location although not that easy to find on the first day! The swimming pool was clean and most welcoming. We are so pleased we found L'Uliveto and we hope that one day we shall repeat the experience.

We booked to eat here as we were staying within walking distance. The food, service, atmosphere and price was amazing. The meal is a set four courses, I did over eat as I didn't want to miss out on a course and could not resist finishing each dish. I would have eaten here every night of our stay, they do not however open every night so make sure you book as they get very busy when open.

Our second New Year's Eve meal at L'Uliveto. This time was as good as the first. The food is always good here; freshly prepared and typical of the region. Our friends and family have all enjoyed the experience of eating at L'Uliveto.

What a delightful place to stay! Be prepared to use your car as it is most definitely in the heart of the country. To wake up and have superb panoramic views of the Maiella mtns. The rooms, and we have stayed in a few as we are becomming regular visitors, are clean and comfortable.

There is no air conditioning but the windows have screens and fans help to make a breeze when the temperature in the summer reaches v high levels.

The hospitality demonstrated by the whole family is fantastic. The quality of service is outstanding, nothing is too much trouble. An understanding of basic Italian does make the experience even more rewarding but should not deter you from staying here because Pietro and family overcome any communication barriers.

We prefer swimming in the sea but on this trip in July we took every opportunity to use the pool. The associated facilities were v clean.

Last but definitely not least, Antonella' s cooking. Wow. Local cuisine and loads of it! All fresh produce of which most is grown or produced from the farm.
