Darwin Forest Country Park

We have just got back from a midweek holiday to Darwin. We stayed in a 3 bed elite lodge on the edge of the park. The park and lodge is very clean, has all the extras you normally have to take, like tea towels, washing up liquid, hair dryer etc. lodges are spacious, but we only had two adults and two children, could imagine a bit of a tight squeeze with 6 adults. Very quite and peaceful. Our lodge got the sun most of the time, some were in shade a lot which means they could get quite cold I would imagine. Staff were excellent. Ate at the Forresters once, ok but so many other really good places just a small car ride away that unless you have to eat there I would recommend exploring the area. Reception staff gave us a list of very good places to eat off site, we tried two and weren't dissappointed. Will be going again, maybe to their other site. Lots of things in the area to visit.

Room Tip: Would ask for a lodge that isn't shaded by the trees.

Fantastic location, comfortable and well equipped lodge, friendly staff and fabulous hot tub. Went for a week in June as family and took three year old grandson. He still talks now about wanting to go back to his 'holiday home'. We stayed in a chatsworth elite spa lodge (no.12) which backed onto the trees at the edge of the park but was close to all of the central facilities. Grandson loved the free soft play area as well as the Little Monkeys. He only went in the pool once as it is the same depth all across and he was out of his depth. He preferred the hot tub anyway! Had a fabulous day out at Gullivers Kingdom as it had just reopened for the season and was very quiet, though everything was open - no queues! Enjoyed our trip to Chatsworth gardens too. Very relaxing park - we would be very happy to go back again.

Room Tip: Choose a spa lodge - it makes all the difference.

We stayed at Darwin Forest for a week in a Chatsworth Elite (One bedroom) Lodge. The location is fantastic, really quiet and well layed out with all lodges spaced apart for privacy. The lodge was well equipped, with everything you could possibly need and a bit more. Our lodge included a spa bath and sauna which were both a real treat and luxury. The lodge was really clean and comfortable and the grounds were well maintained, staff very helpful and facilities excellent.

The only downside was the lack of eating places, the restaurant was rather formal and a bit expensive, we missed the old pub which had a great atmosphere and also ran some great activities and events.

The pool and leisure complex is run independently but is a high standard and offers a good range of services.

We have been to this resort before and will definitely go again.

Room Tip: Families should ask for lodges in the lower and middle section of the park as this is closer to the...

Stayed in chatsworth elite lodge number 59 for one week with family (2 x adults, 2 x 4yr olds, mother). Lodge is of a high standard in fittings and cleanliness and is well equipped (eg free wifi, washing machine, dishwasher and accoutrements such as washing liquids and cloths!). Although lodges quite close together, we felt we had adequate privacy and the small number of lodges on site made the entire complex feel surprisingly quiet (despite being fully booked). Facilities are of a very good standard (swimming pool is excellent and quieter than other similar resorts we have been to) although didn't use the restaurant facilities. Slightly annoyed to have to pay extra for spa facilities and soft play but it's not overly expensive. In sum, a very pleasant and quiet forest park that allowed us to have a great, relaxing holiday.

The lodges are super and provide all you need. Very quiet and comfortable. There are lovely walks around the holiday park and a mile forest trail next door. The pool is also very nice but can get crowded. Beware going if there are swimming lessons on as there is very little space for visitors. The gym is good but you have to pay to visit it. I have fed back several times that I think it should be free but to no avail.
Good to have a small shop there.
Takes 10 minutes to drive anywhere as it is up on the moor.
Staff are excellent and very helpful.
Very pricey in high season so I advise avoid school holidays.
Wifi is rather patchy and no mobile phone reception which is a pain.

Just returned from a week in Darwin forest. Staff were pleasant, lodge clean, lovely little shop not overpriced and stocking local farm produce. The lodges are stocked with everything you need including dishwasher tablets and drying cloths. They are pleasantly spaced out so that you have privacy.
May have been slightly quieter than I expected for the time of year but our kids aged 9, 7 and 5 had no compliants. It is also a good base for a visit to Alton Towerss which was part of the reason i picked it.
