From the moment my wife & I arrived here we were given a warm welcome by the owner (Gavin). He not only helped us carry our luggages to our room but also gave us an option to choose the rooms. The room was very tidy, cozy bed and equipped with basic amenities. Breakfast offered was delicious. Gavin is very friendly and he informed us about the places that we should visit for sightseeing, places to eat, and places to avoid for our safety. What impressed us the most is the warmth and affection Gavin bestowed on us.

I would definitely recommend this B & B to friends.

Arrived at roughly 4pm, and was greeted by (who I presume was) the owner, who helped us with our bags and showed us to our spacious room at the very back of the Guest House.
Everything was spotless, and the TV has loads of channels which entertained us as we were too tired to sightsee. The walls are thin, allowing us to hear the conversations in the room above us and in the hallway, along with the buzzer every time a new guest arrives. Our room had a window linked to the carpark, so that was quite loud too.
We were out at a wedding from 8pm until the early hours, so the next morning all we wanted to do was sleep. Room-phone rang twice (wasn't working when we answered), then the owner knocked on the door to see did we want breakfast. All at 9.30am. While we were not too thrilled about this, it was kind of him to notice we were going to miss it after we had paid for it.
Anyway, 11.30am is checkout time, but when 11.20 came, he was no where to be found. No one was. Me and another guest (I didn't know) wandered around for a bit, and by the time 11.50 came we decided to just leave the keys in the door as he already had our card details. Just as I was going out the door (other guest already left), he appears from upstairs. Went to pay with card, and while I was waiting for him to get the card machine etc, I mentioned the other guest. He then excused himself and went looking for them, to no avail. Then when he came back, he had to cancel the card transaction, then the machine ran out of paper, and the door bell was ringing, leaving it quite late leaving. Having said this, he was very polite and apologetic, but in my hungover state I think it went over my head! We stumbled out tired and groggy, but happy all the same.
I'd recommend, if you like the personal experience while being right in the center of town.

We stayed one night at the Red Setter at the start of a 2 week driving tour of Ireland. It was a real find and a great start to our trip. Gavin was extremely helpful with advice of where to go next and was a charming host. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean and breakfast fantastic. Secure on site parking and good wifi were added bonuses. The location right in the Main Street made for easy access to whatever we wanted to do in the town. Many thanks Gavin for a lovely stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights as our family were in Carlow for a reunion. My mum has stayed here several times, she is originally from Carlow, we had 4 rooms this time. All the rooms are very clean and comfortable, all have a kettle with tea & coffee & chocolate biscuits. There was soap & shower gel/shampoo in the bathroom. There is free wifi in the hotel.
Breakfast is delicious & plentiful, the hosts always asking if you would like any more.
There is a large car park at the guesthouse, which we didnt make use of as we had arrived into Carlow by train from Dublin.
The location is very good for the town, plenty of shops, bars & restaurants all within walking distance.
Thank you Gavin & Triona for a lovely stay at Red Setter
Val

Stayed in Red Setter Guest House for two nights and I was highly pleased with this place it's hard to find any faults. Room was immaculate spotlessly clean and the bathroom also. Toiletries provided. Tea and coffee making facilities and a chocolate bar - lovely gesture. Breakfast is too class, choice of cereals , fresh fruit juices ,yoghurt and fresh fruit lovely brown bread and then the full irish breakfast made to your liking friendly atmosphere great service lovely breakfast room plenty of everything. Secure parking at back of guest house up side street code on gates for entry. Gavin and triona make contact with you before hand about estimated time of arrival and provide you with gate code for access for parking. I will be sure to stay in this fantastic guest house if I am ever in Carlow again and I will also mention it to people looking for somewhere to stay. Gavin and Triona you both have a fantastic set up here I highly compliment ye on such a great place to stay when in Carlow. Thank you again for making my two nights at Red Setter Guest House such a pleasant and enjoyable stay. I hope to see ye again sometime in the future.

Great place to stay - room was comfortable, they offer free secure private parking right outside the back door with proper gates and all. Owner is a very friendly and extremely helpful lady - we were able to check in & leave our luggage at 9 in the morning and she sent one of her staff to get an extra key made for us so we could come in late at night. When we had a little trouble with our onward journey, she lent us her personal iPad so we could get information and make bookings. Outstanding!
