Unfortunately, this was only a one-night stay, en-route, because we would have liked to have spent more time here. The location is quite stunning and the whole ambiance of the hotel encourages relaxation and serenity. Our room was beautifully appointed, overlooking the reservoir and the staff were generally pleasant and knowledgeable without being over-bearing. Zújar appeared to be an interesting little town, offering plenty of choice of alternative eating places and is only a short drive away. We shall definitely be returning for a longer stay.

The evening meal offered at a reasonable price of 11 Euros per person was adequate, but lacked a vegetarian choice, even though we had warned of our preference when we booked. Similarly, the breakfast offered very little choice for those of us who start the day with fruit only . There was no hairdryer in our room, as advertised, but this didn't matter for the one night.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the reservoir is a must.

Just returned from an overnight stay in room 4,Hotel is located within breath taking views of Lake Negratin ,an area not to be missed if you enjoy peace and quiet in a stunning location. This Hotel is a real little gem and we will certainly return and have already recommended it to friends who will be making a visit.Yes there are areas that can be improved with a few little tweeks by management, this can be a superb hotel not just good. The rooms were lovely and clean and room 4 overlooks the lake which was a bonus, swam in the outdoor pool but this is neglected with loose tiles and not very clean.evening meal taken in the restaurant but to improve the ambience suggest you do more subtle lighting to reflect the breath taking views over the lake, also serving staff very pleasant but really jeans and t-shirt ?Breakfast adequate we didn't expect much but not even offered a hot drink?just small things to improve and this hotel could be stunning. Also it would be nice to have a bar area separate from the dining room to relax in.

This wee hotel certainly flatters to decieve; it has the location , it has the "interiors" , it is delightful to the eye -- BUT -- it certainly lacks direction , management or an eye for detail.

Lola , the receptionist , would grace any hotel ; a warm welcome and a willingness to please was a real boon after a long drive. She is outstanding and deserves better.

The room was , like so much of the hotel , pleasing to the eye -- if you discounted loose floor tiles , missing bits of tap , drawer handles with no fixing , previous guests rubbish in the only drawer which worked and the poor cleaning in the bathroom.

The restaurant / cafe was a bit like the staff canteen , Polish girls monopolized the bar and staff and we later discovered they too were staff. Like so much else this super hotel had no obvious standards , no direction and no management what so ever .
The pol had the views but was dirty and had no filtration running
Dinner was just OK .The staff friendly enough but jeans and trainers do not give the impression of anyone caring about presentation or appearance , a group of local lads who think the hotel is a country bar .The expertise was measured by the addition of large ice cube in the Brandy !
It is sad that such vision would seem to be spoiled by a lack of interest on the part of the owners , it is actually more amazing than sad -- I would love a property like this ; previous reviews would indicate we were just unlucky -- years in the Hotel world lead me to doubt this , maybe the serene surroundings helped hide the short comings I cannot believe the guests who had our room , 3 , could not have noticed the loose and missing fixtures.
Breakfast was , well , just laughable ; a few slices of cheese and awful ham , some bread and thin fruit juice -- no eggs , nothing hot , the lady there laughingly admitted and then left us to teach one of the Polish newcomers some Spanish !! oh dear does no one care about this operation at all !!
Would we recommend this hotel -- yes , for its magnificent location and the hope that it gets the kick it needs , if not then give it a miss .
Owners please get a grip of this terrific wee place and make it sing , get it managed PLEASE !!

Room Tip: A reservoir view is a delight

Firstly I must point out there seems to be confusion on the hotel name hotel balneario de zujar-la Alcunacia or Hotel rural La Alcanacia with the Sat nav but this is the same hotel. However I can confirm this hotel has new owners and the restaurant is open on Monday’s. This visit was almost perfect; the only downside was the breakfast as we were only offered hot drink fresh orange and toast by a lady. however the young man that served us lunch times and at Dinner worked very hard and didn't stop He always happy to help. Many thanks for a fab Stay

Unusual though it may seem-this hotel looks EXACTLY like its web photos!
We stayed for four nights and didn't want to leave. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and our room had a view of the lake-fantastic sunsets. There are numerous places to sit and relax or even play the piano.
The Staff are among the best i have ever come across in all my travels around the world-and thats saying something.
The setting on the lake is so beaytiful and the surrounding mountains make you feel in heaven. Nearby is the brand new health spa-another piece of heaven. The hotel & spa share facilities and I can't wait to go back. This place is special and I believe that it would be hard to beat by anyones standards.

Room Tip: we had room three with a view of the lake and the pool but there are two suites that have private te...

The La Alcanacia could be a superb hotel with its stunning views over the beautiful turquoise waters of the reservoir Negratin - you could not wish to be in a more lovely setting.
We had booked the hotel for a Sunday night on a B&B basis for ourselves and two other couples. The young lady, my husband spoke to on the telephone, gave us a discounted price because he is from the local area. We booked a Junior Suite and two doubles.
We hosted a family celebration lunch in the restaurant which went well and the staff were attentive and helpful.
When my husband and I eventually got to bed (in Suite No 13) it was late and we were tired. I noticed several black hairs around the floor area and we found that the TV was not working nor the bed side lights. On pulling back the top cover of the bed it was quite obvious that the bottom sheet had not been changed just the top part smoothed out. The bottom part was wrinkled and had several long black hairs on it!! My husband has short hair and mine is grey so certainly not ours!
My husband went to reception and a pleasant young man came. He was very apologetic and said we could change rooms but as that would mean moving all our belongings and cause disturbance to other guests we declined (The rooms are sited along stone corridors facing a central patio and the noise travels when people walk or talk). He got the TV working eventually and tried changing the bulbs in the lights but they still did not work. We eventually discovered switches hidden under the lights that even he did not know were there and they lit.
We slept very poorly on top of the dirty bed with towels as covers.
Breakfast next morning was a fiasco. The only tea available was green or red! There was one poor woman trying to cope on her own to serve all tables and make the drinks and food. There was no menu to choose from. When the toast eventually appeared it was cold and we had to ask for sugar, butter, jam etc.
We were paying for all rooms and my husband asked at reception to speak with the manger. The girl had to telephone someone and let him speak with her. When he finished speaking he explained to me that although she had apologized she had not offered anything to compensate for the situation.
The receptionist said that she would allow a 50% discount on the quoted suite price. By this time things had become embarrassing and our friends were waiting to leave. My Spanish is not too good but I said to the receptionist that it was totally unacceptable that any payment be requested for a dirty room? She said that she could not authorize a non payment. In frustration and to end this embarrassing episode my husband reluctantly paid.
I asked for the Official Complaints Form to fill in later but was told it had to be filled in there and then so I was even unable to do that.
I emailed the manager and received an extremely condescending reply full of excuses but with no offer of a refund on the price of the Suite. In reply to my comments on the breakfast she said it was nothing to do with the hotel and she would pass them to the manager there?! If a hotel takes bookings and payment for B&B surely they have to take responsibility for the food and service charged for?!
Hopefully if you do decide to stay here you will not experience the issues that we had. However, may I suggest that you check the bedding and cleanliness before you accept your room!

We are really sorry for the problems related to the room condition. We are sure that if you had informed us of those problems as soon as you started feeling uncomfortable, our staff would have done everything to sort them out.
We have already taken all the necessary measures to compensate for the trouble regarding cleanliness. A change of room will not have caused any disturbance to us nor to the rest of guests. Moreover, breakfast was not charged and you got a discount for the rooms. A 50% and 20% discount was applied to the price of the suite and double rooms, respectively, in order to compensate for the trouble caused to you. A complaint form was available, but you decided not to make use of it before leaving.
Actually, other clients complained about your attitude at the restaurant, specially about the fact that you offered your leftovers to other clients, which they found insulting.
We always try to do our best to make our guests feel comfortable. We are sorry that your experience was not as pleasant as we all would have liked it to be.

We stayed for 3 days and, from the minute we entered the hotel until we left, we were met with warmth and genuine Spanish hospitality. We had requested to change the days of our booking and this was done with ease, on the day of check out we were given towels and toiletries and told to feel free to use the pool till we were ready to leave.
This hotel is in a fantastic location and all the staff work really hard to make it a great experience. The food was great because it was local, the wine was of good quality and served with a full explanation of its origins.
With the spa next door about to open we wish the hotel luck - they deserve success.
