“Had a great time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2007

We went to Beaches Boscobel for a one-week vacation with our 5-year-old and 2-year-old daughters. We all had a blast! The kids loved the beach and the pool and we loved being able to take it easy while they danced with Elmo and friends. Sure, the beach isn't big, but it's just right for little ones. Also, we were concerned about the long ride from the airport, but even with two little kids, it wasn't bad at all.

As far as day trips, I went on the horseback riding trip in the water and it was fabulous. My husband enjoyed the canopy tour. The Dunn's River Falls trip was overrated. It was just a very crowded waterfall.

The scuba instructor (Richard) was terrific, as were the rest of the staff. The staff in the Kids Camps were, for the most part, really warm and wonderful. The only downside for us was that the music was too loud at night. Otherwise, it was a nearly perfect trip!

This was by far the best family vacation we've ever taken. A genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our kids are 14, 13, and 10, and we wanted them to experience something outside of the United States. We were recommended to Beaches by a friend who enjoyed the family-friendly atmosphere.

The atmosphere was genuine and the people very friendly. Families with kids of all ages were there. There was not a sense of needing to have a "trophy wife" or anything like that. It was just "real" people with "real" bodies and "real" kids. Everyone could relax and enjoy themselves.

We all loved the self-serve slushie and ice-cream machines, as well as the walk-up and swim-up bars to get more slushies. Alcohol was not pushed upon the adults, but available when asked for.

Water sports were incredibly good. The kids had never snorkeled before, and we ended up doing it every day!!! We also did the banana boat, catamaran, canoe, swimming, etc, etc. Much fun to be had at the beach.

Overall, an excellent trip in an excellent place. I would highly recommend to anyone - especially with a family - that they consider Beaches.

  • Liked — Family-friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — Ice-cream machine and slushie machine were not 24-hours!!!

This was our first all inclusive vacation (Mom, Dad, two girls 8 and 9 yrs. old) so we were not too sure what to expect. We ended up choosing a room on the beach (Honeymoon Suite) for seven days. When reading the reviews on Boscobel we were a bit aprenhisive after reading reports about grueling 2 hour bus rides to the hotel, rampant wild cats, dirty or closed beach, too many stairs, broken elevators, beach too small, etc..
The bus is 2 hours, a good chance to look out the window and see some scenery, ask the driver questions, learn something about Jamacia; 3-4 tame-mellow cats - oh brother; great beach, very clean, raked every morning and no problems using the hobie cats, snorkeling, water tube etc; yes their are stairs - deal with it or wait for the elevator (worked when we were there); the beach is small but plenty big for swimming, sunning, snorkeling, building a sand castle, reading a book, enjoying a sunset drink, taking a nap.
WE LOVED IT.... I would highly reccomend a beach suite, walk out the front sliding glass door four steps and your in the beach -your in Jamacia use the beach... The beach bar is great, not too many people use it, a good place to chill around sunset. Every day we would set up camp at the beach, swim a bit then head up to the pool (Kids couldn't get enough of the frozen strawberry drinks at the pool bar) Dad liked the Dirty Banana drink, we'd have lunch then head down to the beach again for water sports. For dinner the Arazona resturaunt was very nice, on the beach, good view, outdoors - we did the main buffet for breakfast (very good) but did Arizona most evenings. Didnt like the Italian resturaunt that much.
We left the hotel once to do the Swimming with the Dolphins.. Kids Loved it, Dad thought it was fun/interesting, Mom watched - the price REALLY hurt though...
We'll do it again, staff were really friendly, food was good, we didn't want for anything..

My wife decided to take me to Boscobel for my birthday with our children. My son was 5 and my daughter was 6mo. at the time. This trip was the first time any of us had been to Jamaica and we were really excited to go. From the time we got through the gate at the airport, until we were dropped of at the end of our trip we felt like we were in paradise. At the airport they have a wonderful waiting area with cold drinks, food, and a great place to sit until we get into the Cab for the 2 hour drive. The drive was very educational, we drove by Banana orchards, docks, many beautiful homes and resorts, right next to what could be described as "shanty towns." When we got to the resort, we were welcomed with fresh fruit punch and very attentive staff. When they say "all inclusive" they mean it. The only thing I paid for was Tips. Our children’s "day care" was covered, ALL food and drink, even our mini bar in the suite was part of the deal. The only part of the trip that we had a problem with was the DIVE SHOP!!
I have been a Dive Master for over 17 years, and have worked with many dive shops, both in southern Florida, and here in the Pacific North West. I have never seen a shop so full of miscommunication, incompetence, and flagrant disregard for the safety of the divers under its care. When we first arrived at the dive shop they had decided to close early so the one of the employees could go behind the shop onto the beach and play cards. We tried to sign up to go diving the next day and the employee came over grudgingly and told my wife and I to be there the next day and they will bring us out. When we got there the next day that employee denied even talking to us and then we had to wait another day to even get out diving. Then the dives were scheduled at 9am and 1:30pm. The dive shop would all of a sudden decide to change the times and then if you mentioned that the schedule said one thing they would get very upset with you. The final straw was when one of the “Dive Masters” took us into a 3 to 4 knot current and instead of either aborting the dive or changing it into a drift dive, he began to swim against the current stringing the group of divers out over a 100yd string were I being in the middle of the group could not see the Dive Master in the front or the last diver in line. My wife, being relative new to diving was right next to me and became low or air, I signaled for her and I to surface and it took over 15 minuets for the dive master to surface and find out what was going on.
After arriving back at the resort I went directly to the manager of the property, he was very apologetic and did get us over to another sister property to get in our last dive before we went home. The sister property’s dive shop was ran very professionally, and I was glad to see that they actually took care of even the small stuff. All and all our trip was excellent, and we do intend on going to a beaches resort again. Just this time I will not even let the first slipup be over looked.

This was a week of great fun for the entire family. Our 3 children ages 8, 6, and 3 had a blast. Not for one moment did we have to try to keep them busy...there was lots for them to do.

There are several pools with varying depths to accomodate all level of swimmers and the main kids pool has a great waterslide with a great snack area close by complete with self serve ice cream. There is also an X Box room and a kids camp. The X Box room is nice with a good variety of games for all levels of players. We did not put the kids in the day camp because as I said we were just having too much fun together.

The beach is right on the property but is is small and subject occasionally to seaweed washing up on shore which makes it appear dirty. There is a person assigned to full time cleanup of the seaweeds on those days .

As a family of five we had a deluxe room which provided us with plenty of space for sleeping lounging around or just watching TV or playing games. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The mini bars are re-stocked everyday with colas, fruit juices, water and other non alcoholic beverages. The housekeeping staff does an excellent job on a daily basis. Telephone service is reliable and efficient to North America and Europe (yes, the office did call me).

Restaurants were generally good. The main buffet at Bayside we found to be the best because its a patio atmostsphere and the selection of food is great and delicious. Again, the staff will do anything to accomodate special dietary requirements (as I have). Adult beverages are in abundance and the bartenders are all very creative.

Finally, I have to congratulate the resort on their hiring. Every single person we met on staff was absolutely terrific to deal with. We encountered grounds keepers, painters, wait staff, front desk staff and managers who all in my opinion equally valued each person as a guest and treated us like royalty. Everyone was eager to do anything necessary to ensure that our stay was memorable.

Visit the gift shop, it has very interesting trinkets and a super friendly staff.

If you manage to go shopping on the shopping tour, Taj Mahal is a better bargain than the Soni Center. Try to negotiate blue mountain coffee at US$12 to US$15 per pound. Its a good deal.

In closing, great room, great food, great amenities, great staff. I would recommend this resort to even the most picky of travellers (like me). We plan to definitely visit again.

Our family of 5 visited Beaches Boscobel from March 28th to April 2nd, 2007. This was the most relaxing vacation we had ever taken with our children (ages 4, 6 and 9.)
I do have to say that it had a rough start. The trip from the airport was nearly 3 hours and there was a lot of road construction. Once we got into Ocho Rios, the roads were in terrible, terrible condition. Our driver said that the road work probably wouldn't be completed for another 6 or 7 years!
With that aside, once we did get to the resort we were greeted with cool towels and bottles of water. The place was a beautiful surprise to us. I had read some bad reviews prior and was a little leary, especially after that bus ride!
We had a nice room on the beach. It was very clean and our refrigerator was well stocked daily. Our room location was fantastic! We got up every morning and went right out on the beach. The kids loved it! The staff at Boscobel were wonderful and very pleasant. Our concierge, Caren Davy, was so helpful to us.
Our children were always busy and entertained. They loved the pools (especially the slide pool) and the water sports. My 9 and 4 year olds loved the banana boat. My son also enjoyed the kayak. Our youngest children loved to see the Sesame Street characters who occasionally walked around the main pool. There were also character stage shows every other evening. Our sons played basketball, baseball, soccer, ping pong and football (bring your own football though.) The kids made lots of new friends and made a couple of pen pals.
The food was better than I had expected. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. It was our favorite meal of the day. They had anything you could want. Our kids loved that there was a kids area at the buffet that they could reach and help themselves. They felt really independent at Beaches. They also loved the self serve ice cream and frozen drink machines. We also liked the Venetian restaurant, Arizona's and BBQ Park. Eleanor's was terrible though. My food was undercooked there and my husband didn't get what he ordered. The chef did come out to see how everything was though.
There was a great steel band a couple of nights at Appleton Bar. They were great with trying to get the kids involved. Visit Alrick, the bartender. He's a really nice guy.
We loved that we could hang out on the beach and have our lunch from Arizona's served to us there. Staff also came around to see if we needed any drinks. The beach was small, but it was great for us to keep a close eye on our kids. The only problem we had was that many of the water sports had been cancelled for a few days because of the weather. The weather wasn't perfect, so the water was a little rougher than usual. But , that was uncontrollable. Although the waves brought a lot of seaweed on the beach, the staff was constantly raking it up. They worked really hard to keep that beach clean.
Also, there is some construction going on at Boscobel. It's not noticeable unless you are at the kids slide pool. You don't see it there, but you can hear the machinery at work. Boscobel has eliminated the petting zoo ( which we had been unaware of) and are now building a water park similar to that at Negril. It is expected to be completed in 2 years.
We really had a very relaxing, enjoyable vacation at Boscobel. We usually take a trip to Disney this time of year, but decided to try something different and are so glad we did. It was so nice to not have any schedules and just sit back and relax on the beach while our children played with the other kids there. The Jamaican people were such a pleasure. I noticed lots of singing by the staff when they didn't know they were being watched (like near the restrooms or on the paths around the resort.) I guess it's the result of living on such a beautiful island. Ya mon! We are already planning another vacation to Jamaica next year. We may try Negril or go back to Boscobel. The biggest complaint we had on our vacation is that we didn't stay long enough!
