Review of Frogs Heaven

Frogs Heaven

I so enjoyed the enthusiasm and knowledge of the guide/owner of the attraction. He explained so much about the plants in the region, all the ones that are used for cooking - herbs, palm hearts, mandarins and more. He maintained natural ecosystems for the frogs so that we would be likely to find them. And happily he was not too PC about feeding the birds. The national parks don't allow it but a man can put a bird feeder with native plants in his back garden. We watched lots coming for food. It was great!
The only thing I didn't like was that it was too expensive. When we arrived it was just going to be the two of us and I didnt grudge the $50. Just as we were about to start 4 extra people arrived unexpectedly. So the guide got $150 and we had to share his time. A little greedy I felt but I would do it again.

This is a very untouristy attraction set on a families property. We were shown around the flora on the property and their local uses. As the sun went down, we wandered around the steam and saw several frogs including green poison dart frogs and blue jean frogs, insects etc They do their best to give us a good experience while protecting the animals they depend on. We finished with a tasty meal served by grandma in their Tico house. Very friendly and well worth the stop

This was a really nice place. I was there when it was still fairly new and and there was already a wide variety of wild frogs on the property. We could see 2 species of dart frogs and several other frog species. We also had the chance to see some interesting birds and a sloth.

Jose is a great guide with a profound knowledge of the Costa Rican wildlife.

I am really happy to have visited there. It's a great place to take pictures of a diverse variety of frogs in a natural environment (excellent for you photographers).

We could have spent countless hours in Frog's heaven with friendly biologist José who is a wealth of information. We took advantage of two different types of tours: a night tour during which one walks around his private garden and a photography tour. Frog's heaven is very easy to reach, there is ample parking, super clean toilets and 2 small grocery stores nearby in case you need something. The garden has a nice size, no need to sweat or walk for hours, it's all there within few meters. Jose makes you listen to the nights' noises, and shows you plenty of other animals, patiently answers all your questions. We were not specifically into frogs, but now, we are!!! Don't hesitate to take one of his tours, the money you spend is totally worth it!

In April of 2013 we spent a fantastic day with Jorge as our birding and frog guide in the Horquetas area of Costa Rica. Under Jorge's expert guidance, we identified over 50 different bird species, as well as iguanas, howler moneys, and both 2 and 3-toed sloths. Then we got a personal tour of Frogs Heaven, which Jorge is building into an awesome frog habitat.
Starting the morning from Toucan Rescue Ranch in Heredia and a beautiful drive through Parque Nacional Braulio Carillo, we met Jorge at a roadside restaurant near Horquetas, where we sat hypnotized, watching a riot of feeding hummingbirds. Next we drove to Heliconia Island where we spent the morning finding and identifying many birds, including two varieties of toucan, the Ringed Kingfisher, Spectacled Owl and my favorite, the Chestnut-headed Oropendola.
After an authentic Costa Rican lunch, it's a short drive to Frogs Heaven. Jorge is justifiably proud of his creation, which is home to a variety of native frogs. We saw lots, including several Green and Black Poison Dart Frogs, tree frogs, and many others. The habitat is both frog and people-friendly. Jorge's knowledge and enthusiasm make the visit a truly memorable experience.
