Take the coastal road from Dunedin. This motel is nice and near the Albatross Center (worth going) and where the blue penguins come ashore. Ask Mary for tips of when and where to go. Our upstairs room with kitchenette had a great harbor view.

Unfortunatly for us, we were only able to sample the delights of Portabello for a single night and wished we could have stayed longer and taken in and savoured the wonderfull atmosphere of this quaint and friendly village.
The motel itself is first class in all aspects including location with great views across the bay from all units and the proprietors are charming.
All within a two minute stroll, you have a smart coffee shop, locals pub, award winning fish & chips, corner store and an excellent restaurant.
The penquins, seals and albatrosses abound and the scenery, spectacular.
    We shall return !
    John & Linda.

We spent 2 nights in a one bedroom unit with 2 single beds in the bedroom and a queen bed in the living area.
All units have a balcony with views over the bay.
It is a very small, family run motel and is very clean and well appointed.
The kitchen was large and very well equiped.
Although the unit was spacious, there wasn't a sofa, only the dining table and 2 cane chairs.
The motel has a laundry with a good washing machine.
Portobello itself is very small and doesn't have a supermarket, only a small deli however there is a GREAT fish and chip shop just across the road from the motel. There is also a hotel and cafe.

The Motel is about 20 mins out of central Dunedin and located in an area that has a very english feel about it. A small 6 unit complex which makes it very comfortable, plenty of parking, a good coffee shop, bistro, pub and shop very close by and also a very good quality and value for moeny fish and chup shop.

The penisula was a great choice to stay, like it's very own part of the world with Dunedin not very far away. Although the weather was crap it din't prevent us from doing anything it was very enjoyable to ebd the day at the pub then return to our comfortable accommodation. The kids had their own room while our bed was in the main lounge area with the tv and nearby kitchen.

If your loking for a place out of the city, this is it.
