We have just travelled 375 miles with our 88 year old mother for her birthday party with all the family who live near Canterbury and stayed at this hotel; this being our second visit to this public house. The staff are wonderful and so helpful. We held the party there for 42 people and the staff could not have done more for us; food first class and price a bargain; true value for money. Thank you is not enough I cannot find the words to express my gratitude. The bedrooms are comfortable and disabled room most appropriate Tara is a godsend. We cannot thank you enough for your help and patience. If anyone needs a nice place to stay you will not get any better. MADE TO FEEL SO WELCOME as always. Rose

This was our first visit to Kent and loved it. Stayed from Friday to Monday at The White Horse and would definitely stay there again. Loved the feel of history in every room. The food was really fantastic, huge portions, lovely quality. There was a lovely atmosphere all through. Sat in the pretty garden in the sun and read our newspapers and it felt heavenly! We hope you don't change a thing, it is already great!!!

There are lots of brilliant things about the White Horse. I loved the simple, uncluttered design of my room with its fresh pale blue and yellow/cream colour scheme and stripped pine furniture reflecting the character of this old coaching inn - and both the bedroom and the bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was a generous supply of tea/coffee/biscuits and a couple of wrapped chocolates, plus two bottles of mineral water even though the bathroom tap was helpfully labelled 'drinking water' - why don't more places do this? I was also pleased to have an iron and ironing board in the room rather than having to ask for one, and it was good to be given the WiFi code immediately on arrival - it worked well for me.
I ate in the bar/restaurant on both the nights I stayed and felt perfectly comfortable by myself. The blazing fire was very welcoming and the food was really tasty and clearly was indeed freshly made as it says on the menu. In fact I was surprised the restaurant wasn't busier on a Friday and Saturday - it deserves to be full.
I can imagine that the rooms might be noisy, as other reviewers have remarked, but in an old building on a busy road there's not much can be done about that.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back will be quieter

Once again another terrific weekend stay at The White Horse Inn. We've stayed here a number of times now and always appriciate the friendly welcome we receive. The rooms although small are very comfortable and the fresh white linen sheets are always a pleasure.
The highlight apart from the friendly staff is the food............ it truly is first class and a credit to the chef. We dined there both nights, (there is no need to drive anywhere for better quality or value for money), and there is the added advantage that you can have a glass of wine or two without worrying about the driving... The garlic prawns in chilli starter are to be recommended as is the smoked haddock fillet which was so good I had it on both nights we stayed. !
The waitress on the first night (Tobie), was bubbly, refreshing and really made the meal all the more enjoyable with her funny quips. She is the sort of waitress who just seemed to be really happy and enjoying what she was doing, a credit to the white horse team.
Overall great value and a most enjoyable weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the side or back of the hotel away from the road at the front. Book a table for t...

Having stayed at similar Inns in England over the last twelve months for about half the price including breakfast I found that our room for £70 a night without breakfast to be a bit on the steep side. It is a quirky inn with problems that go with such an establishment - dodgy plumbing not least. It does have free wi-fi and is close to Canterbury but it just was not comfortable. Don't let me put you off if you can afford it but there are better places.

Thanks for your feedback. I am unsure which room you stayed in but if the plumbing here is 'dodgy' in one of our rooms I wish you had told us so we could get the problem fixed! We are Visit England 4 star accredited and our room rates are the same price as many 3 star providers in this local area so we think offer value but I am sorry if you thought otherwise.

We stayed overnight and had dinner at this lovely country pub with rooms. The Accomodation was excellent, comfy bed, nice linen, warm and cosy. We had dinner in the pub, which served a wide range of dishes. Portions were plentiful, and the food was good pub quality. My partner particularly enjoyed the 'spitfire' local brew from shepherd neame. There was a wide choice of reasonably priced wines, but the great thing was the welcome. The landlord and staff were smiling, welcoming, and made us feel very comfortable. Great value.

Room Tip: We had room 1 in the converted stables. Very nice.

Our friends recommended The White Horse to us. I can honestly say we had a lovely break here. The venue was well situated for Canterbury and Whitstable. On arrival there was no one around at reception but it wasn't long before we were greeted by a pleasant chap from the restaurant/bar.
Our room was cosy with ensuite bath/shower. A good supply of tea/coffee and biscuits. An added bonus was the free wifi throughout the Inn. There is a small room with a bar and the main bar/restaurant. Both areas are pleasant to sit and have a drink, read and chat. A special mention must be made regarding the lager. It is a local brew but tastes great and obviously kept well by the landlord.
The food was excellent and plentiful. My starter was minus the advacadot because they had run out of it and failed to inform me. However great customer care made up for my disappointment with a coffee on the house at the end of dinner.
We enjoyed dinner so much we booked for the following night rather than trek into Canterbury.
Breakfast was freshly cooked. Eggs cooked how you want them. The bacon and the sausage very tasty. You could help yourself to cereals and juice too.
The staff are helpful but not intrusive. They would rather put things right for you during your stay than for you to leave disappointed. At least that is the impression I got. I loved my stay at The White Horse and would certainly return.
