I discovered Lumiere through a business travel agent that is mandatory for any company travel. I'm probably the only poor individual that has to go to Telluride-- for business.
That said, I flew into Telluride Airport (TEX), which is probably not the most ideal airport for 'nervous' flyers. The flight however, had absolutely gorgeous scenery, and everyone at the airport was very welcoming. I digress.
After securing my rental car, I called Lumiere for directions since I foolishly left my GPS at home. The directions were concise and very easy to get to from Telluride airport (I think you only take 3 total turns, and there are no nasty mountain passes (which is a huge plus for me being from Texas).
Once I arrived at Lumiere, the exterior of the hotel looked like something you would see in a magazine (photos added). The manager of the hotel, Penny, greeted me outside of the hotel and opened the garage for me to park. This was a huge plus, as I didn't even know the hotel offered garage (climate controlled) parking.
Not only was Penny extremely accomodating, I almost felt like I had my own personal concierge. Impressed with the exterior of the hotel, I immediately unloaded a barrage of questions about the interior of the hotel including any famous guests and about the exclusive penthouse rooms. Penny offered me a tour of the penthouse suites, which I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to see.
Though I didn't stay in the penthouse suites, they were fabulous. Top-of-the-line finishes everywhere you turned, and impressive scenic views throughout every room. This was really a treat, and I can only assume most hotels would not take its 'commoner' guests on a tour of its premiere offerings.
After my tour was over, and I headed back to reality, Penny took me to check into my room (#42) on the 4th floor. Expecting disappointment after viewing the penthouse suites, I was still exceptionally pleased with my 1br/1ba suite. All finishes were exactly to my discriminating taste (a mix of modern/contemporary) and top-end. Finshes included Sub-Zero, Kohler, LG, etc throughout and you could tell that the designer left no stone unturned.
The carpet was a beautiful black shag, and stone masonry and granite finishes were found throughout. The room came equipped with a humidifier (which came in quite handy) and Lumiere branded robes. The tiles in the bathroom were warm, which was a splendid surprise to my bare feet.
Since the date of my stay was Nov 18-19, skiing season had not started and Telluride (mountain village, anyway) was somewhat of a ghost town. Since I didn't want to drive into town, I was somewhat concerned about finding a place to have lunch and dinner. Penny called all of the establishments on the mountain to see who was open (only 2 were open) and even offered to personally cook supper for me.
I slept like a king on the plush mattress, and enjoyed a sporting event on the LCD television. The next morning Penny prepared a wonderful breakfast of an omelette, biscuits, and sausage for me. The coffee was good (and rich) and really warmed me up for my business meeting ahead of time.
My meeting was within walking distance of the hotel (at a different hotel) and Penny said I was welcome to leave my car parked in the hotel's garage during my meeting, even though check out time was at 11.
The hotel my meeting was held (one of the more popular hotels on the mountain) absolutely paled in comparison to the Lumiere in finishes and the overall 'luxury' feel.
If you expect 5-star service, top-end finishes, and beautiful scenery 'The Lumiere' will not disappoint. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Telluride, and I will absolutely stay here again if and when I return.
