“Lovely setting and nice rooms”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. We booked two rooms and both had excellent bathrooms and a good level of cleanliness. I personally dislike bottled toiletries but this is a minor gripe. The setting is very good and right next to the canal - yo can watch the narrowboats from the sunny terrace. The food is very disappointing and ordinary. Service is slow although the staff are pleasant and helpful

We managed to get 2 rooms here at short notice for a good price. We think it's been overlooked due to what appear to be poor trip advisor reviews that are based on the restaurant not the accommodation so we're pleased we looked a bit closer. The location is fantastic in view of how close you are to the motorway - alongside a beautiful peaceful canal way complete with ducks , flowers & quaint boats. The rooms are huge & very modern with all you need - large flat screen tv, kettle, iron & board, rain forest shower & bath. The photos on the web site really don't do it justice. We do think there may have been a blip with housekeeping when we first arrived since one of the rooms looked like it hadn't had a recent clean but when we returned the next day after house keeping it was looking good. The disabled room 6 is huge and has grab rails and shower seat. It's also the family room so there is a double & 2 singles in along with table & chairs. Breakfast was a well cooked good quality full English - no choice of fruit etc. we found the restaurant staff friendly & helpful and when we ordered plates of home made chips for supper they even brought them to our room - lovely! We would definitely stay again - great location & good room for good price.

Room was a very pleasant change, not overfussy, nice bed, telly even had a recent Freeview channel already added showing attention to detail! Staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good. Only minor gripe was I was single occupancy and yet on the bill it charged for two breakfasts, presumably because all rooms are booked out for two. Good rate in spite of this and they should just change to a flat rate on the bill for rooms. The person at the bar couldn't have been more helpful when I arrived, went out of her way to store my luggage. I would thoroughly recommend coming here and also using the bar for a drink or cup of tea.

Thank You for your positive comments. in respect of the charge for two breakfasts, this is only done for in house stock purposes, your room rate was not changed, it's just how we divide the revenue into different departments. As you can probably appreciate, it's very difficult to have a flat rate for all of our rooms when we have so many online resellers. I do however, take your comments on board and we hope to see you again soon.

After a disappointing stay at the Hilton Deansgate Manchester I was a little nervous as I had booked two rooms for me and three friends!! No need to worry the assistant manager ( only 19) was efficient and welcoming showed us to our rooms which were lovely! Clean and luxury bathroom! Lovely spot by the canal! Had a good meal in the restaurant. Went to a concert at Hoghton Tower so great location! Had drinks in the bar and able to take drinks back to our rooms! Lovely breakfast freshly made nothing too much trouble even though they had two coach loads in! We couldn't have asked for more and only £35 each!!!

We had an overnight stop here when cycling from Liverpool to Leeds along the canal. The welcome was very friendly, the food really good and the room has been well thought out and decorated - very comfortable nights sleep. Terry has a great team here - young, friendly and enthusiastic. I couldn't quite manage all my Yorkshire pudding and three gigantic sausages but what I did manage was very good! I hope they do really well - we will recommend them from our Go Ape course at Rivington.........

we were cycling the leeds-liverpool and even though we were filthy we were made very welcome, the room was as good as you could hope for, an excellent shower and comfy beds. the food was hearty fare and the beer was well kept. our bikes were placed in a secure area which takes half of the worry away

We were invited to our friends wedding this weekend with the evening reception at the Boatyard. We had booked a room for overnight stay too. Everything was wonderful. The bar and waiting on staff are particularly worthy of note, although all young were courteous, thoughtful, polite and super well mannered. Susan looked after us at breakfast time and she is delightful - great sense of humour and an asset to the team. Found the event manager, Terry, a bit OTT and over familiar for our taste but each to thier own. Overall excellent and would definitely recommend it and return in the future.
