A Tudor – Elizabethan manor and the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family, the Tower stands proudly on its hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. Join a guided tour of the panelled state rooms to hear about the history of the house, the family and the distinguished guests who have enjoyed the house over the centuries. Stroll through the beautiful walled gardens and take in the views. Kids will love the underground passages, the ramparts, dungeons and Dolls House collection. Take a browse in the gift shop and finish your day out in the tea room. Private and School tours available year round with prior arrangement. On the third Sunday of each month, come to our Farmers Market – ‘The Merchant of Hoghton’- a celebration of regional produce. “School visit to experience life in a castle”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We had an excellent time on Wednesday 7th May. The children were very excited and when we arrived we were greeted by Anona, Richard and the other amazing helpers. Everything ran like clockwork. The children loved dressing up and finding out new facts and handling the amazing artefacts. The building and possessions are fabulous and the trip is superbly organised by the helpers. The children experience many aspects of castle life and the facilities are first class. The children learnt lots, which was apparent back in the classroom when they wrote their recounts and thank you letters. All my adult helpers loved it and many of the children want to bring their families to visit! Will definitely be booking for next year.

This historic landmark is well worth visiting both for its heritage and for the charming café with excellent light meals at extremely reasonable prices, served by caring staff.

“School trip”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We have visited this venue with our Year 2 children three years in a row and would highly recommend it (athough a lot of the historical info would probably be better suited to KS2 children). The communication and organisation of the staff is first class and ensures a stress free trip. The children get to dress up and hear some really interesting stories during the visit. Thank you again Hoghton Tower.

“Tudor Easter and Farmers Market.”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

The beautiful weather brought out the crowds and caught out both the Tower staff and the stallholders. We were lucky and got there early, so got on a tour which was excellent if a little quirky. We had some fantastic Malkin pie with all kinds of everything in it. The queue for the burgers was always bigger than I was prepared to wait in. I'm not sure how they just kept rolling along. We got the last few coffees from the mobile van before they ran out of milk. Lots of stalls were wiped out or anxiously awaiting restocking. Despite the crowds and large amount of food sold I saw almost no litter, probably because there were large numbers litter bins.
The gardens and grounds were well kept and tidy and I'd say to anyone who was disappointed give it another try and hopefully it will be not so busy.
The Tower has just produced it's own recipe beer which it will be selling at weddings and in the shop. I believe there are plans down the line to install brewing equipment which will form part of the tour so watch this space.
