From the moment you arrive when a gong is sounded and music is played to greet you the people at this hotel are helpful, chatty, friendly and so pleased to have you staying with them. The rooms are clean and well equipped and the food in all the restaurants is good, but the Coast reataurant is very special. It's great to have the orangutan sanctuary attached to the hotel and the visit is informative. When we were there the hotel was busy with families and the pool could become very crowded with children. It would have been better if the Ocean pool was for adults only, rather than for use by people staying in the Ocean rooms. The beach was long and sandy, but it was spoilt slightly by rubbish which came in with the tide. I felt there was enough staff around for someone to clear the beach each day. Despite this we loved this hotel and the farewell by the waiters and waitresses was genuinely touching.

Thank you for your review - pleased to hear you enjoyed the Resort, Coast and the Orangutans. We have noted your comments on the garbage on the beach and hope that the new beach cleaning machine will help improve the cleanliness of this area. We have been clearing the sand each day by hand, however I am sure you can appreciate that cleaning 3 km of beach is a challenge. I am sure the new machine will make improvements soon, regards Timothy Wright

We came to Shanghri La Rasa Ria for 10 days of peace and relaxation in February. We had both turned our busy phones off and left the laptops at home.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with hot towels and mango tea drinks.
The location is a bit out of town facing a lovely long clean beach and extremely peaceful.
The grounds are very well maintained and the gardens beautiful.
We had booked a Garden Wing executive room but inquired about upgrading to the Ocean Wing upon arrival. We were happily shown to our booked room which was lovely and spacious and then shown to the Ocean wing room to compare.
The decider for us was the large bath on the veranda and the though of a quieter pool with less children. It was lovely to have a large shower big enough for two and a separate toilet with sliding door. The toiletries were lovely and replaced every day.
An assortment for dried fruit, fresh fruit, and chocolates we delivered to our room each evening and the coffee from the coffee machine in our room was so delicious when we arrived home we bought a similar machine for work.

As we were staying in the Ocean Wing, it was wonderful to wander down to the restaurant overlooking the sea for breakfast each morning enjoying the great variety of breakfast buffet and ordering a freshly cooked breakfast each day.
There was a large variety of restaurants for lunch and dinner; we thoroughly enjoyed every meal we tried. Most of our lunches were spent lazing on a deck chair by the pool and ordering lunch from the pool bar.One night we had room service in our room, the service was prompt and the meal delicous and very warm.

We received outstanding service from all the staff we dealt with during our stay they were all very courteous, friendly, and simply could not do enough for you..
My husband and I spent a very relaxing three hours at the Day Spa having a couples treatment the massages and baths excellent. Although we did find three hours a little long for us and if we went again would have a shorter treatment.

A visit to the Orangutan sanctuary is a must, We did a paid walk of the sanctuary and also enjoyed the free talk and seeing the lovely baby orangutan they were raising.

We found no reason to leave this small spot of paradise for our ten days although you can organize day tours through the resort if you would like to.

We hope to return to this wonderful Resort again next year and could not fault our stay

Thank you for your feedback. I was pleased to hear you enjoyed your holiday and found the upgrade to Ocean Wing worthwhile. We try to create a relaxed but attentive atmosphere and usually the Ocean Wing pool is more tranquil that the Garden Wing with it's children's pool slide. We appreciate your positive review, with thanks Timothy Wright

Having travelled extensively throughout the world and having stayed in many 5* hotels this is definately one of the best that my family have experienced. We stayed in the Ocean Wing - quite expensive to upgrade (and we had two rooms) but worth every penny. Room fantastic, (tip - ask for the top floor incredible views for the sunset in your balcony bathtub.
Food - Lots of choice and if you stay in the Ocean Wing you can have exclusive breakfast in the 'Coast Restaurant' which serves both al la carte and buffet.
Additionally if you stay in the Ocean Wing you have the use of a pool only for this wing. Even in August no problem to get sunbeds , the towels (two per bed) are laid out every morning by 8am and changed for you regularly during the day. Other services such as having your sun glasses cleaned round the pool, complimentary snacks and drinks and just an incredible service. Happy Hour 5pm - 7pm worthwhile for cocktails by the pool also.

Our favourite restaurants was the Japanese Ten Pan Yaki and Coast, really great food.

We also used the gym every day - good quality equipment - my only problem was that sometimes too crowded and could not get on a treadmill straight away.

Anyhow would recommend this hotel for families and couples and if you want that extra bit of luxury consider upgrading to the Ocean Wing.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor - especially in the ocean wing

Thanks for your great review and good to hear you appreciated the Ocean Wing with it's additional services and amenities. I was also pleased you found the new gym with the latest equipment of good quality - we can appreciate that when the hotel is full, there may be a short wait for some of the more popular pieces of equipment at peak times of the day however this does not happen frequently. Thanks again for your feedback, regards Timothy Wright

Our party consisted of my wife and I, our 19yr old son and his girlfriend and our 7yr old daughter. Every one of us found the Rasa Ria to be a fantastic place and none of us ran out of things to do.
The warm welcome was an indicator of the care taken to make guests feel special and we were soon being addressed by name in our regular haunt of the Tepi Laut restaurant. Most nights this is a buffet where you can choose your own selections from the variety of kitchens available. The atmosphere here is informal but service is still high.
I understand this is due to be refurbished soon and I hope that the restaurant will still retain it's great atmosphere.
We were in seaview rooms and had no complaints about the furnishings even though I believe these are rooms due for a refit. Our sixth floor room had wonderful views of both the sea and the well kept gardens.
Breakfasts were served buffet style and offered an amazing range of choices. Be there by 9.00 and avoid having to wait. The one morning we were late after an early morning trip, the wait was just a few minutes.
As my daughter had her birthday during our stay we asked if a cake could be made; it was and was brought out at dinner to her great surprise with vocal accompaniment.

As two of us are keen birders we took some of the walks offered by the hotel's own nature reserve staff. The golf course walk produced not only some excellent birds but also good views of otters. The jungle trail was good as a taster for the family but birds are never guaranteed in this environment, so don't count on seeing lots. The guides are informative and very helpful.
For the birders there is also a walk that we took on our own away from the hotel to the left looking seawards. This produced red and black broadbill, large-tailed nightjar and plaintive cuckoo among others.
The pool was excellent and there were always sunbeds available. Poolside snacks and drinks are available and of a good quality.
We enjoyed the Tepi Laut so much we ate there all week, imagine our delight when on our last night the staff had prepared our table with roses, orchids and other special touches.
This is an excellent resort and the helpful and friendly staff set it apart from any other destination we have visited.

Thanks for your feedback and great to hear the Team at Rasa Ria looked after you and your family. Tepi Laut will be closed for a short period while we shut down the Garden Wing pool for some much needed maintenance. As the restaurant is located right next to the pool, we will take the opportunity to touch up the woodwork but the concept and atmosphere will remain unchanged. I was pleased you enjoyed the birdlife around the Resort - there are more than 60 species and the Rangers at the Nature Reserve organise frequent activities for enthusiasts. Thanks agin for your review, it was a pleasure meeting you, regards Timothy Wright

We came to Kota Kimbala with our son and family as a quick getaway from Hong Kong. Upon arrrival, being welcomed by a huge gong and having hot towels and drinks while checking in should have been an indicator of the stay----and it was. Other than being a bit out of town the location was wonderful.. A long long deserted beach to run on---avoiding the herds of cattle. great water sports.. sonderful restaurants to choose from and even having umbrellas available to avoid the occasional tropical shower mad this a wonderful getaway,.

Room Tip: higher up is better---but all were very well appointed

Great to learn you found this a good getaway - the trip from Hong Kong or Singapore is only a few hours and you can usually be on the beach by lunchtime the same day! Thanks for your review, regards Timothy Wright
