Great holiday hotel. From the time we arrived the service just kept getting better. Great location, pool, spa, restaurants and activities.
Must do candle light dinner on balcony with Buttler, see orangutans, sunset drinks, spa and golf. Food is great from restaurant to room service.
This hotel will not disappoint.
Will bring whole family next time.

Stayed at the rasa ria for 4 days in December with my wife and 10 month old baby. We liked the service very much. Even though we were there for just a short break, the hotel staff treated us like they knew us well. Seemed like all the hotel staff knew our kid's name and he was never short of attention.

The ocean facing room was comfortable and had a fantastic view of the beach. on the downside, dining options are pretty limited especially at lunch time. I believe this may be because of the renovation work going on. To make up for this, we were given credit for meals.

The other downside is of course that the hotel is some distance away from town. Not really a big problem as you'd probably not want to spend more than a day in town anyway. Best way to get around would be to rent a car which hotel can arrange. There is a seafood restaurant nearby that you can ask the reception about. Relatively cheap, good and full of locals.

Thank you for your review - please you and your family enjoyed your short break away and that my colleagues look after you. At lunchtime we have two restaurants open as well as service around the pools - this seems to suit most people as many are enjoying relaxing around the pool areas at this time of the day. Your suggestion is appreciated. Regards Timothy Wright

We chose this hotel from pictures without reading any reviews.
The hotel didn't disapoint us. It was ghe most beautiful and relaxing holiday we have ever been to. The location is just wonderful, set in a forest.
What we loved most was the relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff, and gorgeous food every day. The selection of food is incredible. The beach is wonderful, you can go to the forest and watch the orangutans, go kayaking, horse riding...

This complex was partially under renovation when we stayed for a weekend. But the experience is the same as what one would expect at any other Shangri-La resort. Now there's consistency. Despite us being a family of 9, this hotel was the perfect choice at it had activities and facilities to keep one relaxed or preoccupied. The rooms were newly renovated and reflected a bright tropical atmosphere. The bathrooms were big and the balconies, even bigger. Ask for corner rooms.
We also celebrated a birthday at the hotel and everyone gave our family member special attention all throughout the evening. A typhoon howled for a few hours while we were asleep but it didn't bother anyone at all.
Overall, this Shangri-La property is for those who just want to relax, see a few Orangutans and enjoy the wide empty beach.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have wrap around balconies for the garden wing, while the Ocean wing corner rooms have side windows for more sunlight and view of the forest.

My family and I stayed during the Christmas holiday at this property as well as the Tajung Aru property (since Rasa Ria was fully booked). I have also stayed at other Shangri La resort properties in the world and was a little disappointed by the service here. My front desk check in experience was ridicuous. It took almost a 1/2 hour as we sat there in the heat waiting with our young children as the front desk woman in the Ocean Wing tried to figure out what the Golden Card plan offers guests. This is something that she should have been trained to do from the start and should not have to be taught about it by me. She also forogt to mention that there was a food credit to comp us for the construction. This completely screwed up our final bill as we were using Golden Card points to pay for meals.

The construction was an absolute pain to deal with if you have children that use strollers. The kids club and nature center are clear across the resort and there is not a path way to access them. You have to walk on the sandy beach with little lighting at night. If I wanted to go there with my children, I would have to push my stroller through the sand and construction sites. The resort should layout a proper pathway or carpet for the families that are pushing their strollers back and forth. Or use the club cars to transport clients from one part of the resort to the other.

Now the stay was not all bad. The food was excellent!! The staff at the restaurants were great as was the staff at the pool. I would like to mention that breakfast was a little chaotic as the staff there was not assigned to a set number of tables and would forget orders! Finally, the ocean wing rooms were very good and had beautiful views.

The nature reserve was also very good. The orang utan viewing at Rasa ria was better than the viewing at Sepilok!!!! I also found the staff at the center to be very accomodating.

Many thanks for your constructive feedback - sorry to hear your check-in arrangements were not well organised and you did not receive recognition as one of our Golden Circle Members. I can understand the difficulties you experienced with a stoller around the Resort as many of our walkways around the Garden Wing are closed because of proximity to the working area and we want to ensure the safety of our guests. I was pleased that you found the food to your liking and that the service around the pool and at the Nature Reserve was good. Appreciate your feedback & hope you will return once our Resort upgrading has been completed, regards Timothy Wright
