“Le Galion Beach”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Don't go!!!! We went there a few days ago, beautiful looking, rented chairs and umbrella, and then went in the water. Big mistake. Came out within five minutes, there were broken beer bottles everywhere, and we mean everywhere. Not little pieces, heads broken off and large chards of the remaining bottom, just there for anyone to step on. Children running on the beach had no idea what would happen when they ran in. Consequently we asked for our money back and left. We did let it be known to those around us to be careful. The poor guy working there agreed, said they try to keep it as nice as they can but admitted the locals just really don't care and they just partied on Easter weekend. Such a waste, don't you know what an Island Paradise you have here guys????? Shameful.

“Best family beach”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Great place to swim wit young kids. Water is warm and clean and beautiful. We were surprised to see this year that they built a roped off swimming pool of sorts. Nice idea.

“Gorgeous, Uncrowded Beach Day”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

My family (mom, dad, 16 year old and 13 year old) have visited many beaches on St. Martin. We particularly love Pinel, had a fun day watching the planes at Maho and enjoyed all the activity at Orient. Now I am really glad we spent a day at Le Galion.

We took a shared taxi ($7.00/person) from the cruise ship port to Le Galion. Since taxis don't go there often, we arranged a return ride with the driver.

We left the ship at 8:50 am and were sitting on the beach at 9:30 am. We rented 4 beach chairs (5 euros each) and two beach umbrellas (10 euros each)

We were the second family to arrive on this beach, and it didn't start to get more families until about 12 noon. Throughout the day, there was plenty of space and the beach never got crowded.

There were many couples and families with infants and small children. There were not many teens, but my kids loved Le Galion because they could lounge or be active. There were paddle boats, kayaks, windsurfing lessons, stand up paddle boards, and diving platforms. If you wish, the path to Orient Beach is on the left side of the beach as you face the ocean. It's about a half mile walk.

The onsite restaurant, Tropical Wave, was good, with a nice staff. My family enjoyed the burgers, the mahi mahi was ok.

The only downside, if you needed it: the free wifi did not seem to work and not everyone could get a cell signal. My husband had some work emails and calls to make and he could not get access. This was a small issue for us, and probably a non issue for most people.

Our day at Le Galion was excellent. You can be as relaxed or as active as you wish in a gorgeous, uncrowded setting.

“Kid friendly”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

We took the taxi from Downtown Philipsburg (taxi fare: $6 /person) and it was a 20 minute taxi ride. When we got to the beach, we wanted to stay in a somewhat shaded area as we were travelling with a 10 month old baby, but we did not find any that was available. So we were forced to rent out beach chairs with umbrella (it was $20 for two beach chairs with umbrella.)
The beach was beautiful - calm water great for swimming.
Water sports were available (I'm not exactly sure how much it costs)
Restaurant and bathroom facilities were nearby.
The only thing we were disappointed with was we couldn't rinse off after swimming because showers weren't available. Other than that, we had a great time at Le Galion beach!

“Calm Beach Good For Small Children”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

We visited St. Martin on a cruise with 5 other ships in port. Instead of our usual trip to Orient Beach, which we figured would be packed, we asked a local for a quiet beach. He suggested Le Galion. The beach is just south of Orient Beach and has reasonable facilities including restaurant, bar and washrooms. Two chairs and an umbrella for $20. Water was very calm and shallow. A lot of small kids in the water at the swimming area. Not too busy or packed and many people drive there. Can take a long walk on beach also.
