“Flight in and by foot, from the dusk to dark”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013

We were picked up by helicopter from our resort and spent more than 40 mins in the air to see the Bay of Island, it's definitely the best way to understand why this place has its name from.. all the islands, and their lagoons are so beautiful and you can only see this in a helicopter view. After that we arrived Puketi while Ian was expecting us there and welcomed us with his confident and friendly smile. Our night forest adventure started..as you can see in many reviews here and they are all very true, the night in the forest is so much different and it's definitely one of things you should do in your life time. I feel so close to the nature when I can actually feel the chill of the forest, see the weta outside the zoo and the silver fern with the moonlight coating. Everything is magical at night, the forest is so alive, and the experience is so one of a kind..

“Combo day & night trek lets you see both side of the forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2013 via mobile

Just come back from a wonderful trek in Puketi forest park with Helen guiding us for over 4 hours. We set off just before 6pm and hiked to the forest and then along the managed walkways through the bush. There was still plenty of light to see and photograph birds, the wonderful Kauri trees and the view as we climbed to the ridge line. After a refreshment break, we set off back, suitably equipped with head torches into the gathering gloom. The forest looked completely different at night with Weta's and Spiders appearing. A look in a stream showed trout, eels and crayfish whilst the more pork called in the distance.

A very special experience - many thanks to Helen guiding us and to Ian & Barbara for setting this up at very short notice.

“Great walk, fantastic guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2013

We went on a night walk in the Puketi Forest earlier this year. It was an amazing experience. Ian, our guide, was brilliant. We weren't sure what to expect, but as night fell we were captivated by all the incredible things the forest had to offer. We saw wetas, stick insects, amazing spiders and a giant hunting centipede. Ian was very knowledgeable and his passion for the area brought it to life. A thoroughly enjoyable evening out.

Thanks Ian, Barbara & Helen for this wonderful welcome in your magnificient place. The night walk in this beautiful forest was so great! We learn a lot!
We will remember the big Kauri Trees, the spider who ate the insect and all the wetas, stick insects and eels we saw!
We will have to come back for the kiwi :)

“Great getaway and forest walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2012 via mobile

Ian, Barbara and Co. made us feel very welcome in this boutique, secluded lodge. They we're extremely helpful from the start recommending the night walk and b&b combo. We had a nice cheese board on arrival and got straight into the forest tour. The night walk was a great way to see some kauri trees, lots of spiders and bugs. Didn't see a kiwi but learnt a great deal about the conservation efforts. Ian was very knowledgeable and we went at our pace. They were also helpful in finding excellent places to eat (recommend the cafe beside treaty grounds) and stay in the real Northland area.
