I've been meaning to get around to this review for a couple of months now!
This was quite a late and rather desperate booking because my wife and our friends had been rather slow in looking for somewhere to stay on a joint holiday. There were few reviews in English on the net (ok, none - but my German coped with the one review we did find) so we weren't sure what to expect.
What we found was a lovely old building, built round a courtyard, that retained a lot of its original features and quite a few antiques, including, I suspect, much of the furniture. Basically it was absolutely delightful, and one of the comfiest beds I've ever had in a B&B. We had two rooms with a shared bathroom on the first floor. Absolutely ideal for friends on holiday together - but you may want to check what the bathroom arrangements are if you don't want to share. The rooms were in a corridor separated from the rest of the building by its own door - so plenty of privacy if required. The bedrooms are spacious, exceptionally so - plenty of space for the extra bed needed for my friends' child.
The breakfast is good. Actually, the breakfast is very good - and you're unlikely to starve, and they were exceptionally understanding of my mate's fussy eating and my even fussier godchild (well, they did need to bring her!).
The village is rather small, but pleasant and a couple of nice places to eat in it - but the B&B owners clearly know the area and gave us some exceptionally good tips on local restaurants. If you walk up the hill behind the B&B there's an exceptional church with great views of the area.
Considering the time of year we went, and the quality of the accommodation and breakfast, the price couldn't be beaten.
There is a pool, but it's one of those modern raised ones, that must have been craned in. It looks a bit out of place in the middle of the lovely courtyard - but hey, there's a pool!
The only downside is that it is 2 or 3 kilometres from the lake - longer than a comfortable walk if it's hot and you don't do hills - so you'll need a car. The good news is that it's also a pleasant drive over to Lake Maggiore.
The owner doesn't speak much English, but her son (I think) does so be prepared for some mild embarrassment if he's not in when you arrive (and you don't speak Italian) - but they're very pleasant and it'll all work out.
Quick sum up - great accommodation (but check your bathroom arrangements), bring a phrase book, enjoy the breakfast, listen to their tips on where to eat out, bring a car and relax - it's lovely and surprisingly reasonably priced.
