“Great life changing experience”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

This is my 1st surf camp (hopefully first of many;) and the experience was amazing. Baleal camp location is perfect, hostel accommodation far beyond expectations - very clean and cozy, just 7-10 min from the beach (house #2). All staff at Baleal surf camp - surf instructors, managers, bartenders - professional and passionate about what they do. Lots of attention to every detail, heaps of fun, great menu at Bar de Bruno. When you are in the camp you find yourself immersed in the surfing culture and make friends from all over the world instantly. Will come back soon to catch more waves!))) Ready to share more info in English or Russian/Ukrainian.

In summary: the value of having someone know the currents and tides and choose good spots to give you countless repetitions is worth the price alone.

Steve and Felippe were the instructors. Since it was pretty much the offseason (late November) it was a small class which was nice. Was able to stand up quite a few times and learned a lot of the basics. I knew nothing about surfing going into the class. Some of the more advanced students were able to catch some bigger waves and use normal boards, not the foam boards. The instruction is good, but as many people know nothing is as good as repetitions. Steve and Felippe would go out earlier in the morning to survey the area and choose awesome spots that gave us endless opportunities at waves every day. We went out twice a day and spent most of the time in the water, which is what you'd want.

In addition Steve and Felippe gave us a cool tour of the area and were really good at giving just general advice on surfing. We had an amazingly good group dinner at Tasca do Joel where we ate Javali. It was great. They gave me some tips on Portuguese grammar, which was nice to be able to practice. All in all they're two really cool guys that are very passionate not only about surfing but about helping members of the class. If you can't get along with them then something is probably wrong with you.

The accommodations at the hostel were solid, but not spectacular. Not that it matters since most of the time you were surfing anyway. The ladies that ran the place were really nice as well. Had some good chats with a lot of the other classmates.

Just returned from Baleal where we had lots of surf lessons with the Baleal team. Really great people who looked after us like friends. The teaching was spot on and they couldn't do enough for us. All the guys are really genuine with a real passion for surfing and the area. Big thanks to Steven (who is the only person we know who looks good in a gimp hat!), Ladis (seriously quick pop ups!) Miguel, Roman and Alex. The club house is a great place to chill out with fantastic views of the surf and good food and drinks. We'll be back in October!

Perfection. Everything about this place is perfect. Baleal is a wonderful location for surfing due to its geographical conformation which always assure you the perfect spots depending of the weather conditions. The Surf Camp is probably one of the most confortable and friendly places I've ever been to...I really felt at home. The staff is very kind and helpful. The surf lessons are well organised with a lot of theoretical aspects, water practice and video correction, which has proven to be very helpful. But what really makes the difference are the instructors: they are amazing people, super prepared and very very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place.

After working and travelling abroad this is the first review I've written, after having such an amazing time at Baleal Surf Camp. After staying for a week I didn't want to leave - our accommodation in the main house was fanastic, fully equipped, clean, comfortable and in such a fabulous location. Surf school and surf camp staff were friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The instructors weren't just doing their job to make money, they honestly and truly were sharing their passion and love for the sea and surfing with us and went well above and beyond what I expected. Their flexibility depending on conditions and how everyone was feeling was amazing, and had so much to offer.
When first arriving I was surprised to learn that people staying there had extended their initial one week stays to two or even three weeks... however would have loved to do that myself if I had time!
A huge thanks to the team, and I hope to be able to make it back while I'm on this side of the world :)

Baleal Surf Camp is simply just the best place on earth to learn or improve your surfing skills. I can only recommend to stay with Baleal Surf Camp for at least one week, you´d better stay longer cause there´s the risk to get really addicted to this place, the camp, the people and of course: surfing.

Baleal Surf Camp is a perfectly organised and professional place. All the accomodations are absolutely clean, the kitchen is fully equipped and all the houses are pretty close to the beach, all you need to to is relax and feel at home.

At Baleal Surf Camp you can be sure that the instructors only have one mission: to teach you how to surf and make your day full of joy and fun. Doesn´t matter if you are beginner, intermediate or advanced, you´re definitely going to appreciate their passion and work. Videocorrections and a lot of important information about surfing, surfboards, techniques, tides and so on will help you a lot to understand your surfboard and your surfing technique and will make you feel really comfortable in the ocean. Don´t miss the tour to Fatum Surfboard Factory - it´s quite interesting!! Furthermore, all the instructors simply just give everything to ensure you a pleasant stay at their camp. Even if the classes are already over, they organise BBQ, dinner in local restaurants , trips to other villages, movie-nights and so on. And if the conditions are really good, they even spend their weekend at the Surfschool.... so yes: I think they are already addicted to their job as well ;). They also organise your classes depending on the tides and the best conditions for your level. And even if once in a while, the weather or the conditions don´t allow you to surf there´s always an alternative thing to do. The Baleal Surf Camp team will never stop to entertain you!!

Whatever you need, I am sure you will find it and if there´s any problem, these guys will help you to solve it. I already spent almost 5 weeks at Baleal Surf Camp and I simply just loved every minute I could stay there. And of course, I try to be back soon!! To come to an end: I can only recommend this camp to everyone who is looking for an adventure, for a wonderful time, for an escape from real life, for surfing their hearts out, for professional surfing lessons or simply just an experience for a lifetime!! I´m sure you´re going to love it!!

BSC-Team: if you read this, I really need to say THANK YOU again. Thanks for another amazing time with you, thanks for your flexibility, your help and training, all the very useful information about Surfing, for your patience, your support, your energy, your good vibes, the tasty dinner and BBQs, the wonderful and cosy hostel and the most important thing: for sharing all your passion about surfing!! There´s only one more I thing I am feeling for Baleal Surf Camp and Surfing in general: TRUE LOVE!!! I can´t wait to be back to BSC and enjoy all this and the new and reconstructed Bar do Bruno!!

Very special thanks to Felippe and Steve: you simply are THE dreamteam and I really appreciate your work!! You guys are the perfect head of a wonderful and absolute professional team of instructors and I am really glad to know you!! Keep on loving what you are doing and you will never stop to put a big big smile on your student´s faces!!! Muito obrigada and can´t wait to see you again soon!!
