“Not worth the price”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, from July 13 -16, mid-winter season in Chile. Booked a room on the fourth floor and expected to have a stunning view of the trees and forest. We could see the trees but we also had a view of the roofs of the surrounding buildings, such as the other hotels, indoor pool, restaurants, etc. We asked to change rooms and realized that most of the rooms have a view of the surrounding roofs, which are not disguised by plants on something. Do not think you will be sleeping in the middle of the trees
The staff is very young, nice, has a lot of enthusiasm and tries to be helpful, but they lack experience, it seems like they are amateurs.
We had to hold the hose to cool down the hot tub, while the man in charge of doing this had to check on another hot tub, they had run out of tea at breakfast, the water in the indoor pool and Jacuzzi was not very warm.
Geographically the place is nice because of the surroundings and the area is beautiful, this is a very beautiful part of Chile, but you could stay at any hotel near the lake and would have a better view. We found the place, service and view expensive for its value

We expected this hotel to be good but it surpassed all expectations. Stunning building, lovely staff and the setting is just awesome. Watching the sunset from our balcony whilst drinking a glass of gorgeous wine and nibbling on the complementary chocolates was something that will live long in our memories. Our guide for the walk through the forest was also suburb. Friendly, knowledgeable and totally enthusiastic about her local region and its preservation. We wish we could have stayed a week however we would have needed to extend the mortgage to pay for all the time that we would have spent in the (rather wonderful!) Spa!

We stayed in February and it was a family trip (in laws and husband and I). Everything was great, specially the location. Building is gorgeous!!
Only downside and quite a disappointment is that the spa is far from being a relaxing area. It was more like a public swimming pool at a leisure centre as there was children everywhere. I have been to a lot of nice spas in the world and never seen or been to any that allows children to use the facilities. Children were running and shouting in swimming pool and relaxing areas... and that wasn't the one day only, it was everyday that I spent at the hotel. Everything else was absolutely fine!!

The buildings at Huilo-Huilo, including the Nothofagus( named after a species of tree) are rather bizarre wooden structures. Spirals abound with trees popping thru the rubber clad roofs. A long bumpy road gets you there for what is a unique experience with otherworldly ambiance. The room was nice with a forest view. The restaurant starts dinner at 7:30 and the food is very good. Breakfast buffet is delicious. Nearby Huilo-Huilo Saltas(waterfalls) are worth the walk.

If one is to truly enjoy the Eco fairyland that is Huilo Huilo, it s necessary to suspend disbelief and accept the magical, mysterious premise of its creators. That liberal acceptance must extend to the accommodations and especially the staff of Montana Magica and Nothofagus hotels. There are many intriguing and enjoyable features in the preserve, including its nature trails, canopy zip line adventure, River Fuy and falls, and fly fishing. And the woodsy natural interior decor is a nice finish on what are generally first class hotel rooms and dining areas. But just like their surroundings, the hotels were a bit unfinished, perhaps unspoiled by the spit and polish one might find at a Four Seasons resort. And that goes double for the staff. They were enthusiastic, friendly, and tried very hard to please, but woefully inexperienced. Sometimes we felt like we were in a hotel run totally by amateurs. That said, we had a very nice stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We were so excited to be in a lodge that really looked like the Ewok Village from Star Wars. The hotel itself is fantastic and we couldn't get over it. However, there were a few things that soured the experience. I have to preface all of this with the fact that I'm a Spanish speaker and there were not any miscommunications here.

(1) It was cold and there was no heat - so I couldn't sleep on the second night.
(2) The spa was really nice, however the services were crap. I asked for a lymphatic massage and my mother asked for a reflexology massage - the people who gave us the massages were not trained in any massage, that much was evident, and gave us what I can only describe as caresses on our arms and legs, having nothing what-so-ever to do with reflexology nor lymphatic massage. It's wonderful that they hire local people in this remote place, but really you can't be charging $110 for something far below standard.
(3) The buffets were great and if you have the "all inclusive program", you will get the option of selecting the chefs special. However, we were waiting over an hour just for our starters - soup and salad....

All this said, the staff was very polite, nice, and helpful, but seemed just to not get how a service business operates. My biggest suggestion would be to close the spa services and get the spa staff certified and not to let those who are untrained touch any clients.

Room Tip: Beds were great but it was cold and there was not any central heating system.

Beautiful design, excellent spa facilities, comfortable rooms, lovely setting - slow service. Additional services such as excursions are difficult to reach as there is lack of organization. Overall I loved the Baobab hotel for its spa, comfort and beautiful setting and dream of going back
