We looked for a French restaurant last weekend and were very pleased to find Ooh La La. The experience was both unusual and very pleasing. They have a fixed price menu at $29.95 for three courses, and their interpretation of that is to bring out food immediately and leisurely, so that we didn't have to order anything at all until we got to the main course. One of us had an excellent salmon, another a superb pork, and I had the beef special. The hors d'oeuvres were wonderful and so was the next course. No one does sauces better than the French! The waiters and servers were most gracious, and no one was in a hurry. My only complaint would be that the beef was rather tough, so I had to slice it small to eat the delicious pieces with the outstanding sauce. Ooh La La is a real serendipity! We will return!

Just returned from an amazing dinner at Ooh La La and can't get over what a wonderful experience we had. The food was terrific from the appetizers to desserts. We live in San Diego and forgot that we were in Big Bear where food is not usually of this caliber. This same dinner in San Diego would be easily double the price. Great food, charming little restaurant and the chef even came out to visit with us. Thanks Ooh La La for a wonderful evening.

This held good promise at first, with its $29.95 for a 3 course meal deal.

My boyfriend and I went there as our special date night out. You know when you go to cheaper restaurants to save money on a trip, and save a special night for a special restaurant? That was our plan when we chose to enter Ooh La La.

After having driven for 6 hours to get to Big Bear, we were exhausted. The food was average, I didn't feel it deserved its claim to being a "fine dining" establishment. But nevermind, at least it was a reasonable price. Before we ordered, we asked if we could split a 3 course meal, since we weren't that hungry and we enjoy sharing food. The waiter Louis said he'd check with the chef, then returned and said it wasn't an issue. So that's what we ordered.

The next day, having looked at the receipt, we realized we were severely overcharged. The check should have come to $35 at most with tax, but they charged us $60.

We returned to the restaurant immediately to inform them of the over-charge, and spoke to the chef first. He said THERE WAS NO CHARGE FOR SPLITTING, and we shouldn't have been over-charged. Later on, we spoke to the manager and she claimed there was a charge to splitting. The chef quickly changed his tone and said that most fine dining restaurants don't do splitting so of course they'd charge. The point was, if they had informed us of the $25 over-charge, we would have chosen to order a second set meal instead (wouldn't that make sense?)

We insisted that it was fair for us to get our refund, and they quickly got aggressive. The manager, who'd asked us to stand in the corridor to wait, shouted at us to get out of her way. She then said "We are a business, we aren't a church or a charity", which was insulting, as neither of us expect free food, we just expect some integrity. I said to her that we just want them to operate as an honest business and stop ripping people off, and that's when she called the cops on us and told them we were trespassing.

When the cops arrived, they were sympathetic to us, but said that it was a civil issue and they couldn't do anything about it. They then advised us to leave the premises, and we voluntarily did so as our aim wasn't to cause trouble.

Overall, they ripped us off of $25, continued being dishonest about it, and then turned nasty and rude when we called them out on their dishonesty.

It was very unpleasant for us to deal with this especially on a holiday, and we don't advise anyone to put themselves through this. They obviously don't rip EVERYONE off, but selective people, and if you happen to be one of the unlucky few, it's not worth the trouble disputing the check when it arrives.

Wonderful little restaurant with a 5 star chef. Prix fixe menu with 5 appetizers, entree, and dessert. A very special place. Every dish was delicious - extremely different, especially for Big Bear. A place we will go to for special occasions.
