I had purchased the 4pm tour through the tourist information office and once I read the reviws, I thought I had wasted my cash. Yes, the group was fairly large with 20 people, but the guide was very informative. I am fluent in both Spanish and English and listened to both explanations which were exactly the same. I guess it just depends on the guide conducting the tour, but I was happy that I did it.

After having great experiences with other walking tours in Barcelona and Andalusia, this tour was painfully bad. The group was much too large (roughly 35) and bilingual (english and french), which meant that half the time was spent standing around while the guide translated to the second part of the group. The tour was also badly organized, with the guide spending 30-45 minutes at the beginning taking money and dividing up the group, and throughout the tour it was stopped to take in newcomers. All the negative cliches about group tours-herds of people following a bored tourguide-came true in this tour. We spent 4 hours on the "Cordoba Monuments Intensive Tour" going to the Alcazar de los Reyes, the Jewish quarter, the Synagogue and the Mezquita. I would definitely like to go again to the Mezquita, but would get an audioguide next time.

Although located just outside the city limits, the former city of Medina Azahara is difficult to get to by public transport. So, after an online search, we opted to take the tour organized by Konexion Tours. We made our booking by e-mail and using their website as a guide.

The tour was well organized and their guide both understood and spoke English well. He also understood the focus of the tour well and answered questions appropriately. I would strongly recommend a guided tour of Medina Azahara as, without the guide interpreting what you are viewing, most of Mediana Azahara is just a pile of stones. You need the interpretation!

The tour uses a combination of coach and internal buses to get to and around the site. If you take this tour, make sure you know EXACTLY where you are to be picked up in Cordoba. We thought we did.... but didn't. Fortunately another couple came to our rescue and told us we were waiting at the wrong bus stop!

Overall this was an interesting and well organized tour and a day well spent. We can recommend it.
