We stayed here for one night a few months ago. Rooms were quite dirty, windows were smudged, the bed was lumpy and the shower and bathroom floor was not adequately cleaned. The walls were thin, you could hear people next door. Staff were very unwelcoming, we were never asked if our room/stay was okay. The breakfast was poor at best. We will not return, definitely not worth the price, can't understand the good reviews.

Just stayed for two nights whilst working in the Borders area. Its really great to get a warm welcome at the end of a log working day. The food on both evenings was very tasty and professionally presented. Local smoked haddock on spring onion mash and chicken breast with pasta, peppers and chorizo...... yum! Breakfast offers a good choice to suit all tastes.
The room was bright and cozy, the shower superb. Free Wifi helped to get all my PC work sent back to the office easily, another nice touch.
I will definitely be staying here again if I'm working in this region again.
So, to Katrina, William and the team at the Allanton, thank you..... look forward to staying again.

Room Tip: single travellers.... room 4 is compact, but has a larger shower and is great value

We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the same lovely welcome we had before. The owners, staff, room, evening meals, breakfasts, garden all just perfect! Wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting this area. Everything and everyone so nice - definite value for money and so friendly with nothing too much trouble.

Room Tip: Both time we have stayed we had different rooms which were equally lovely.

Despite being busy due to Jim Clark Rallyst evening, the allanton Inn provided an excellent choice for a family meal. The food was excellent, the service was attentive and friendly (but not intrusive) and it was good value for money. Well done

Arriving late on our first day in a rented cottage in nearby Duns, we were stuck for what to do about dinner. We aimlessly explored the surrounding area and came across a brown sign pointing us here.

Unassuming from the outside, once you enter the pub you find a cosy, stylishly decorated bar and a nice comfortable looking restaurant. We got a warm welcome and friendly service. As for the food - it's very good. Carefully and imaginatively prepared and expertly cooked. The menu is short but pleasingly varied. A little on the expensive side perhaps, but very good value for money, nevertheless. We'd be very happy to treat ourselves to a return visit!

Having been before, some nine months ago we revisited the restaurant.
The sign of a good place is in the consistency.
We found on this occasion the service was again first class, the staff helpful and conscientious without being overbearing.
The food was superb, the ambience excellent and the décor tasteful.
Overall a pleasant experience which will see us return and recommend to friends

We stayed for 2 nights in August 2012. We arrived on a Friday night, when the pub was very busy - great atmosphere. We were shown to our room, which was on the small side but very clean and had views over the beer garden and countryside beyond. Bathroom was very small, but had everything you needed. As we did overlook the beer garden and were above the kitchen, you couldn't keep your window open for the smells from the kitchen extractor fan. Maybe a room overlooking the street would have been better.

Breakfast was really good - highlight for me, was the fresh honeycomb, what a nice treat having honeycomb that looked like it came straight from the hive for breakfast with fresh fruit and yoghurt. The full Scottish breakfast was fantastic too!
