Pleasant enough. When I went in I wondered why, being so near a campsite, it wasn't crowded. When I paid for the beer I realised why.

Unfortunately reading some of the comments we must have called on a bad day? The barman was awful to us - he was very rude.
He also took my friends drink before it was finished and when asked about it he brought it back and slammed the glass down, laughed and walked away. Highly unacceptable and if I took somebody's drink away by mistake I would NOT give them the same one back - given my fingers had been in it and expect them to drink it. Irregardless of how much was remaining.
Learn some manners you creep.

Went with friends who had a young child, food selection really good and catered very well for the little one. Games and colouring books available for use. Good value.

The Royal Oak is a typical English pub, with an area for serving food away from the main bar. It could do with a facelift and seemed a bit dreary, but the food was good and portions are big- my wife and I settled for the smaller portions on offer and they were plenty big enough for us.

Staff were friendly and overall value was really good. Not a place for a posh meal though!

The Royal Oak restaurant never ceases to offer good food, and a wide variety of best value meals. The menu provides a good selection to suit all tastes and pockets and notably they do not overlook vegetarian diet.
While the restaurant is more comfortable, eating in the bar is equally good.
The Oak is in the centre of the village and seems always to be open! Lunches and dinners can easily blend during the afternoon and Terry, the host and publican, always ensures excellent service.
A warm and friendly welcome with a very good selection of local ales as well as the usual mass market beers, their own label wines and an incredible selection of spirits together with wonderful food at best prices makes this one of the finest pubs in the Lake District.
Families, clubs and individuals all get the same top class attention. If you are in the area, don't miss visiting the Royal Oak.
