I guess I am biased as I am trying to complete the Wainwrights but all you can say is stunning views, amazing wildlife and still a part of England you can take yourself away for the day and be on your own and enjoy the peace and quiet of it all. You can't really review a place like this as it does it no justice

The lakes and fells are where my heart lies, but the central fells are so accessible, there is a hill for everyone, wheelchair user or fully ambulant, high level super-fit or the happy wanderer, there is a fell with your name on it....and remember, size doesn't matter!

This is indeed a very beautiful area.

If setting out to walk, especially in places like Great Gable, do ensure that you are properly equiped and are competent with map and compass. The temperature on the tops can be much lower than at the valley floors and poor visibility can set in very quickly. Last Tuesday I was walking in this area and was caught in low cloud with perhaps 10m visibility, and winds which came close to blowing me over on a few occasions despite my weighing 85kg. As I was kitted out for this eventuality, it was an interesting experience and some useful navigation practice, so overall I enjoyed it, but the potential hazard to those unprepared to cope with such conditions was obvious.

Whenever you go up a mountain, assume the weather will do its worst and equip yourself accordingly.
