Have just returned from a 3 night break at this wonderful hotel. We had very comfortable rooms which were attended to daily, they were well presented and had everything you required. The staff were FANTASTIC nothing was too much trouble they were more than helpful to everyone including the four legged guests. The amazing Becky and her knowledge of the ales available was a credit to the establishment and even gained her a rousing round of applause on one occasion. Tom very knowledgable even down to the hercules planes that on occasions fly down the valley. Our wonderful hosts who welcomed us on a very chilly afternoon with a roaring log fire blazing and a very well stocked bar. The food what can I say just forget about diets the food was amazing, so much choice well cooked well presented delicious but be warned they are cumbrian portions which translates to VERY LARGE. Cannot reccommend this hotel enough we will definetley be returning. Oh and big thanks to the lovely housekeeping staff who attended to our rooms we never saw you but knew you had been there xx.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have lovely views

We spent 3 nights here . The staff were very helpful. The room had a lovely view of Skiddaw. We enjoyed two evening meals which were delicious but the breakfast were the best we have ever had using the best local ingredients. We did not not need to eat during the day. There are plenty of walks from the hotel so there is no need to use your car. Finally my husband was very impressed with the range and quality of the beers.

Quality and care at every step; a truly outstanding dining experience. Thankyou and bravo! We lok forward to working our way through your carefully sourced and crafted menu.

We had a short break in the lakes staying here, very good choice. Staff very helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble. You are made to feel very welcome, it has a relaxed family atmosphere and dog friendly, which made me wish we'd brought our pooch with us! Room clean and comfortable, hotel has a lovely view of Skiddaw, food and ale excellent as is landlord's witty banter! Local area is beautiful and close to Keswick which has very good amenities. In short - a fantastic break, highly recommended and we will be back. Thanks guys.

We booked here for the last night of our stay in the Lakes and it was full. The waiting staff were very young, eager, a bit unsure of themselves but extremely likeable and pleasant. We were advised all would be cooked fresh so there would be a bit of a wait so we ordered a drink and settled at our table in the conservatory having chosen a cod dish and a beef for main. The bread served while we waited was excellent. Made on the premises it has to be the best bread I have tasted so it set quite a standard.
Unfortunately the main courses were rather disappointing as both were dry - my dining companion asked for some gravy with hers and it pepped it up a bit - but mine was sitting in a lobster sauce which was tasteless and the consistency of water. In all honesty I should have sent it back as it was not up to my expectation but having waited for it I couldn't bear to go round the waiting loop again. We noticed the puddings arriving at the next table and they did look well presented and inviting but we decided not to order any. Good elements were how welcome dogs were at the restaurant - we don't have any but it was pleasant to see well behaved pooches being made to feel at home.
I gather there are trivial pursuit questions on the tables to make you cope with the wait time but no one mentioned this to us. I think this place is perhaps a bit hit and miss as I think it probably can be super and we just made injudicious choices from the menu.
