“friendly staff and great value for money”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

I've been going to the Coledale for a few years now and last weekend I went back with a group of mates for a weekend of fellwalking, eating and drinking. The Coledale's an ideal place to stay., being close to some excellent walks. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough to make you feel at home. The hotel's undergone a makeover by upgrading a couple of the rooms and they've done a brilliant job. The food and drink (local real ales) are excellent. Overall great value for money.

our group stay at the Coledale Inn one long weekend every year, it's not the closest to where we walk but it is one of the friendliest . Gary and his wife and the staff are always welcoming and the food and the rooms and the views are great .

We stayed for one night over the Bank Holiday weekend and had a lovely stay. The staff team were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious. We had dinner in the restaurant and can highly recommend the food.

We stayed for one night as we wanted somewhere close to some good walking but within easy access of the A66 and Braithwaite fitted the bill. We are so pleased we chose the Coledale Inn. Our room was lovely - large and with an outside door which was perfect for us as we had our two dogs with us. Check-in was quick and smooth and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We ate in the bar on the evening and found the menu choices to be good and the portions generous - the dogs were allowed in here too. Breakfast was lovely - again a separate room was available for people who had their dogs along. All in all a very pleasant and convenient stay and we will return in the future.

We have been coming to Braithwaite for over 30 years and the Coledale for over 20 years, we have nothing but praise for the place, the staff and all of the Mawdsley family. We were there this week to celebrate my birthday and we had a fabulous time. Gary and Carol were really pleasant as per usual and made all their guests feel special. The Staff were very accomodating especially Pam who always has a kind word to say and very friendly with everyone. I must say that the rooms are fantastic after their extensive renovations and the garden is really nice, the food as always is very good and I can't understand anyone wishing to complain. If it wasn't to their liking then they should see a member of staff who would do everything in their power to put it right. We are already looking forward to our next visit and Iwe will continue to recommend The Coledale to all our friends. Thank you Geoff and family for a fantastic place to be. Brian and Kathleen Hudspith and Bonnie our border collie.

Room Tip: If you have a pet or two then the outside rooms are ideal so not to cause any disturbances in the ho...

We decided at the last minute to book a B and B in the Lakes, and this place had great reviews so we were excited to try it. It is a larger B&B, which on the Easter weekend was bustling and busy. The team at the hotel seemed very friendly and were happy to help with queries and making your stay as comfortable as possible. The room was spacious and very clean with a lovely comfy bed. The bathroom however was very small. All in all, a good base to stay with lovely views.

Room Tip: Our room was on the top floor and think this was a good choice as it seems to have a very popular ba...
