Description: Simple food, great beer, five luxury bedrooms and a warm welcome. That’s what you can expect at the Tiger Inn. Just off the idyllic village green in sleepy East Dean, the Tiger Inn is a quintessentially English pub.

“Very poor service unless you are a local”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We visited the Tiger Inn yesterday with another couple. The place was busy as you would expect on a sunny Sunday afternoon. It did not help that one young lad was delivering food whilst drinks were being served by one lady Jenny. We were queuing out the door, we were sixth in line, unless you were a local that just sat the bar and were served by Jenny with little regard to her queuing customers. We spoke to her and said this was wrong and she agreed it was, but then still continued to do it. So we left as did others. We will not be visiting this establishment again. Such a shame as it could be a nice pub if you got a new manager and started to treat customers equally. Although I think the main problem is the locals who look down on non local customers. We felt that they think it is their pub and visitors were an irritation, well if the place carries on like this then I can't see it surviving.

“Cosy pub, food good but could be better”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

This is a very well known pub in the area that I haven't been to in many years so on this visit to Eastbourne, we went for dinner with my sister and fiancé. It's in an idyllic setting on East Dean village green. It was a lovely evening late May and tables outside were packed with walkers so we went straight in to our reserved table. Hint - do reserve on a Saturday night, it was packed with locals, walkers and cricketers! Our table, indeed all the ones in the little dining room, was quite small, adequate for us and the food is plated as there would be no room for serving dishes. The young waitress remembered my sister's various requests from her previous visit which I thought was quite impressive. Two of us had duck breast and two the burger. The burger got high votes. It was huge with loads of chips and good bun. The duck was fine. Mine came with a plum sauce which was very nice but only about a tablespoon of it over the duck. Served with plain new potatoes and a few pieces of courgette and carrot. It was just a bit dull and lacking something. I think they could do better. I would go back again as it's such a lovely place and hope my next meal was more tasty.

Spacious outdoor seating area overlooking village green. Historic building with so much atmosphere. A really mixed crowd and very welcoming.

“Not impressed and unlikely to visit again”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Took friends for an evening meal at this typical old style Sussex pub which is located in a beautiful setting. The atmosphere was perfect, but the place was badly let down by the standard of food; battered squid rings were like wet elastic bands, pasta dish was very basic (even I could make a dish like this!) The glasses had an unwashed look about them...perhaps a different dishwasher substance/rinse product should be used?
