“A good place for surfing and sightseeing.”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

Went there late March along with some friends to try out surfing. We arrived mid-afternoon and the waves were really huge and since we're beginners,we were hesitant to try it out.You can hire an instructor and a surfing board for 300php an hour.My freinds tried it out but I chickened out due to the strong waves. The instructor recommended to try early in the morning as the waves are small w/c is great for first timers.Next day we visited Ermita Hill w/c has a nice view, overlooking Baler's beautiful landscape, great for picture-taking.We then went to Ditumabo Falls w/c is a long walk from the entrance by the way but its all worth it once u get there. You can enjoy lunch at the bahay kubo store/carinderia located at the entrance after coming back from the falls because for sure you'll be hungry by then.Last stop was the huge Balete tree.It was quite amazing as u can go inside the tree and a person there can take pics of you if you want free of charge as long as you have your own camera. There are still a lot of places to explore there as we only went there for an overnight stay we werent able to see much.Best to stay for 2-3 days at least to get to explore the beauty of this place.

“Good place to learn how to surf”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

This place can get a bit crowded. Best to go here early if you want to surf.

The waves are consistent. Good place for beginners. Rates start at PhP 350/hour with instructor and surfboard, Php 800/day just for the surfboard. I recommend Mahdox for those who want to learn. Their instructors are funny, patient and nice. This establishment is about 100 meters right of Costa Pacifica if facing the beach.

There are a lot of places to choose from if you want food and drinks. I was just surprised to find out that they don't have souvenir shops.

Aside from surfing, you can also rent boats, kayaks and jetskis.

The beach is clean, by the way. So for those who plan to go here, leave only but footprints and good memories.

“Designed for young and sporty”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We have been traveling a lot in Philippines. Mostly we visited the beautiful islands with white beaches and corals. Some of my friends have posted couple of pictures from Baler. This is the place where local people go surfing. So we decided to make a change and to try something else than snorkeling.
Usually people set off early morning from Manila to Baler - at around 6 am latest, so you can reach Baler by lunch. It is only around 250 km from Manila but there is only half way of highway and then it comes to "provincial highway" which is actually passing through many villages and woods. We also thought that we missed the direction, as the road becomes very bumpy at some points.
Since Baler is not so commercialized yet, you find that the food and drinks are pretty cheap. There is a very nice hotel "Costa Pacifica", that actually i would recommend to anyone who likes not only surfing but as well nice relax next the pool. Our hotel however did not have pool, even though it had direct access to beach.
Beach is pretty huge and Pacific is never calm. So some days were really tough for beginners as us to surf. There are not beds on the beach, so it is expected that your holiday is related to surfing. Equipment and teacher are not expensive. I would really recommend to get the the professional help before you start surfing by yourself.
Our teenage boys also enjoyed jumping through waves.
Water was not cold but it was windy, so it is good if you have some towels after swimming.
In overal - great experience and would recommend for young and sporty people. I just missed relaxing on the white sand and the crystal clear water from our island hopping holidays...
