“Very Friendly”

Great welcome from staff and locals for our large dog - great beer - food was very good considering the unexpected pressure Tony was put under with staff not turning up

“Just come home.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

My family and I have just returned home from a minners cottage about 40 steps away from this pub. We arrived bank holiday monday and eent to this pub for an evening meal. The people who greated us were very lovely and our waitress not only took our order but took an interest in where we had traveled from. Food was cooked and presented lovely. My mum and I had the steak pie and it was delicious. My partner and father went back to the pub every night of our holiday as they sell local welsh ciders and beers. Very homely welcoming and helpful pub.

“Good, but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

I guess the most important thing was that the food was good - it was. We both had a starter and steak main course, both of which were very good. Service not great though, waitresses were polite but we had to go through to the pokey little bar which was full of locals to get our own drinks then bring them back to table. Little or no atmosphere in the dining room itself as well. I would go back, but only if I was really stuck for something to eat in the village.

“Lobster to Order - Delightful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

We booked a table a couple of weeks ago and had pre ordered lobster. We popped in late afternoon for a cheeky but deserved drink after our walk and were glad to see the lobster had been ordered in fresh (they were still alive).

It was prepared by the new manager Nick and served beautifully with attention to every detail, tasted delious and we will definately be back for more.

The only down side was the waiting staff need a little customer service training and need to be a bit more on the ball (we had a 2nd bottle of house wine but were given a different one to the first bottle).

Great night though and will definately be back..

“Two nights running two very different experiences”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013 via mobile

Visited in October 2013 so did not expect it to be busy but the first night was great - nice food friendly reception by the Manager Nicholas Morse. It was early evening so the restaurant was cold but the heating was turned up. Nice waitress and I was ready to give an excellent review. Others in the restaurant had sizzling steaks and we wished we had ordered them as they had a real wow factor. So we decided to book for the following evening. Wish we had not. Despite virtually ordering the steaks the night before, even how we wanted them cooked we gave our order in and ... Wait for it ....No Steaks, no Lamb Shank. "The butcher had not delivered"
Reading some previous reviews there do seem some similarities and assurances it would not happen again. Very disappointed as it was our last night in the area and despite assurances they would be there the next day just not good enough. Felt sorry for the young waitress as she had to handle a situation she was unaware of before taking our order.
We will try again in the future but stock control and communication needs to improve.
