Stayed 3 nights with hubby right before the holiday season. Caroline and Tom connected with us regularly on TripAdvisor inbox and included helpful information for how to reach the home. There were nice touches throughout the home including eggs, milk, and some cookies for us (Thanks!). Kitchen was excellent to cook in... clean, no clutter and with exactly the things we needed - including fresh ground salt/pepper and olive oil. The place is attached to their home so they are close by if you need anything. The bathroom had a wonderful heated towel rack and extremely soft towels. They are close by the trails and have a wonderful view of the valley.
We stumbled upon this cottage at the last minute when we were booking a break to the Lakes and initially wanted somewhere in Keswick. We initially thought that being 15 minutes out of town was a compromise, but we could not have been more wrong! The location is absolutely stunning with the most breathtaking views out over the fells, and we loved waking up to it each morning through the bedroom window, and watching the colours dance as the sun set each evening.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and so incredibly well equipped, particularly for self-catering. We loved settling down in front of the fire each evening and had to force ourselves to leave! There are a range of walks right from the front door of different levels so you only need to get in the car to go and re-stock supplies! As you can imagine it is absolutely silent there, with only farm vehicles and sheep for company.
The hosts are helpful and friendly but really give you your space to enjoy the holiday without intruding. We were overwhelmed by how many gifts were in the cottage when we arrived, from eggs to lovely red roses, and unlimited firewood- particularly as we were only there for a short break and the low price of the cottage.
This is a magical and romantic place- so much so that my boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed on our first night there! And reading reviews below, I am not the only lucky girl to have had the same experience. It made our experience so special that the hosts brought over a card and bubbles to congratulate us- just reflecting their kind and generous nature.
A wonderful place to explore the Lakes from- if you can force yourself to leave the front door, you have all the most beautiful locations within a short drive. We are desperate to return already!
This place was absolutely awesome. Firstly, the views are to die for. Coming from flat country by the sea, being able to look out on the amazing views was just breathtaking. At night the stars shine and the entire place is so peaceful.
The drive up is quite winding and narrow in some places, definitely follow directions they give you as there is one route off the main road that was washed away by the floods. You're definitely off the beaten track up here. Their drive would be awesome if it snowed!
The property has a couple of different levels (which was great amusement to us as we live in /flat/ land). The property was well furnished and very smart. Everything we needed was there and nothing was hanging off or broken. Watching the sheepdog and his sheep in the morning was a highlight too.
The little touch of the hand written note was great and my partner's birthday bottle of Prosecco.
The family were really lovely and greeted us despite being busy with their new born baby. They did say that the place was being redecorated shortly after we left, which I can honestly say if the property was "in need of redecorating" then my house must be a pig sty in comparison! It was a truly stunning, well equipped and lovely place to be. We were very sad to leave and go home.
It's all the more special because on our last day, my partner proposed! So High Snab Farm is even more memorable to us.
The only downside was that the Wifi was fairly weak in most rooms & phone signal on 3 was non existent - however getting away from technology and modern day world was a really good, refreshing break.
We couldn't be more grateful and in love with the place. Thank you again!
What an excellent location. The property was fantstic, clean and welcoming. Ideal location for walking and discovery of the surrounding area. This property is ideal for walkers and trekers wanting to get out and about to catbells, keswick and derwent water. Can't rate tha
Wonderful stay in the most beautiful location.spotless accommodation everything to hand and lovely owners next door for any help.log burner a treat.3 miles to nearest shop so get some essentials in and relax.
Cat bells just a short walk away..and the most beautiful lake at Buttermere a short breathtaking drive away through the valley..loved it..
My husband and I stayed at High Snab Cottage for a week to celebrate our first anniversary. Tom and Caroline were extremely helpful from the start - they were very quick to respond and were happy to answer any questions we had before arriving.
The cottage is tucked away in the beautiful Newlands valley, just south of Keswick. The location was perfect for what we wanted - loads of great walks and bike rides from the door (Robinson, Maiden Moor, Causey Pike and Grasmoor are very accessible, and we also walked to the peaks south of Buttermere for a further option) with Keswick only 30 minutes drive away and Whinlatter Forest also easy to get to for cycling. There are absolutely stunning views from the cottage across the valley, and we enjoyed eating outside (weather permitting!) and gazing at Causey Pike and Cat Bells.
On arrival we were greeted by Tom and Caroline who made us feel welcome and comfortable. They gave us some great tips about local walks, and had even provided some biscuits, fruit, milk and flowers to start us off. We did not see much of them throughout the holiday, but as they were right next door we knew they were always available to answer any questions.
The cottage itself is very cosy and well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is plenty of cooking ware, crockery and a dishwasher, so self catering is very easy. The living area is nice and snug, with a cute little log burner which we would definitely have used if the weather had been colder. The shower is amazing (very important if you are spending long days outdoors!) and the bed is very comfy, with gorgeous views of Cat Bells from the window.
There is ample space outside the cottage for lounging and eating, and a nice little BBQ area although we didn't quite have the weather to make the most of that! There is also plenty of storage space outside for storing bikes and hanging wet kit.
We did find that there weren't any warm places for drying wet kit and clothes though, which isn't too much of a problem if the weather is warm or if you're not planning on hiking/cycling etc - however as it was quite drizzly for much of our stay, we had a lot of wet kit and there isn't much drying space other than the outhouse which is quite cold for drying. It is also worth noting that the washing machine, located in an outhouse around the corner from High Snab Cottage, is shared with Tom and Caroline's family, which was very kind of them and not a problem as they are happy for guests to use it as frequently as they like. We found it slightly inconvenient as we produced a lot of dirty walking/cycling kit which we would have perhaps liked to have washed more frequently but did not like to hog the washing machine, however it wasn't too much of an issue as we had packed plenty of spare kit so could go for a few days without washing.
Overall, we would definitely recommend High Snab Cottage for a walking holiday or just a relaxed getaway. We had a lovely time and are very grateful to Tom and Caroline for providing a wonderful haven in the gorgeous Lake District.
We are just back from a week at High Snab Farm Cottage, Caroline and Tom the farmers, who live next door, are very friendly hosts they leave you to enjoy a peaceful break if that is what you want, but make it clear they are on hand with help and advice if needed. The one bed cottage is spacious, the decor and cleanliness are exemplary with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. The cottage, set in a working farm, and has wonderful views in every direction. There are easy or more taxing walks, on the fells or around Derwent Water, just as you step out of the door. Ideal for two people, I would recommend High Snab Farm for a wonderful break in the heart of the North Lake District.
