“Want to keep fit?”

What a pity to have such a run down Health center at this hotel! Yesterday, after a long day travelling, I decided to go for a run in the gym and a swim in the pool. The machines were dirty and a couple of rowing machines were wobbly, so I left pretty fast as the pool looked huge and beautiful. The water was clean and warm -a real treat,I have to say- but the changing rooms were a disappointment. They are spacious but have not been renovated for the last 20 years .There was no spinning machine for my costume ,so I had to take a wet cozy to my room.

Stayed at this hotel a couple of times, a lot of golfers stay here and the large groups of men only can be a little noisy but really not too bad. We stay because it is handy for Cambridge being just a few miles down the A14 to the park and ride and also a hell of a lot cheaper than the Cambridge centre hotels.

Food is average for a hotel of this type nothing special but all well cooked and presented. We always stay D, B&B and are never dissapointed.

Our daughter had her wedding in this hotel and we were well looked after by all the staff, especially Sumith who was very attentive to our details and our other wedding guests needs. Sumith seemed to have a great team of staff around him making sure the details of the wedding meal etc went exactly to plan.

Well it was a bit of a last minute thing trying to get somewhere the weekend before easter, but after all I suppose it was by chance that I came accross this hotel and spa.
We were staying with two close friends for two nights, and the intention was to have a couple of games of golf while the ladys went shopping or sight seing in town.
Arrived saturday approx midday and the location is brilliant and very easy to find. A massive car park with loads of spaces. Having already booked a tee time of 1:30 for our game we were allowed to go access the room regardless, very nice people at reception, also booked a time for dinner for both nights there and then, and so onto the room, changed for golf and found the bar for a coffee. First impressions were excellant, so far so good.
Did the golf and the girls went to town. Bus stop just outside the hotel, avoid taking the car as its imposible to park in Cambridge. Golf course very good. enjoyed it totaly. To the 19th quick drink and then freshen up for dinner.
As the dinner was all in with the price, it was limited in terms of choise, but very very good, super meal. All of us wined and dined feeling totaly relaxed in a very friendly atmosphere. Ended up in the bar and allowed to have coffee there instead of at the table while watching the US Masters along with lots of other people followed by a few beers.
This place looks to me that alot of golfers go there for weekend breaks so if your going, do book ealier than I did, as at weekends the tee times do go very quickly, no different to any other golf course I suppose. Buggies available, but again pre book.
Bar prices where what I can say are slightly on the high side, but for a tourist place like Cambridge I'm not supprised. Usual choises of any hotel in the land for beers and spirits and a nice selection of wines on offer.
The room was lovely with one of the biggest beds I've ever seen, very soft, maybe a little too soft as it had a large dint in it from the usage over the years, that is if they keep beds that long before changing them. So a new mattras wouldn't have gone a miss. Tea and coffee available in the room also, overall the room was clean and tidy. Bathroom nice with a nice powerfull shower.
Day 2, breakfast was full English or whatever you fancied, again alot of choise and good and hot. Did the pool, steam room, and bubble tub, but sunna not working. The pool was a reasonable size and not busy which is always good so able to get a few lengths in before golf.
More golf and more shopping, drinks and food. The eveing meal had a completely different choise from the night before menu and was still limited, but excellant.
Generaly a very tidy clean and friendly place that I would recommend to anyone.
To finish I'd like to say the prices we paid for all the facilitys, bed, breakfast and evening meal, golf not included, was brilliant, approx £65 each per night.
Superb weekend break, would definetly go again. Look out for offers at this hotel, even try phoning direct as to what deal you can get. Also have a word with the golf Pro as to what he can do for you if having several games.............Very Good .

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the pool - noise coming from the aircon units all night - ask for car park facing...

I tried saving a little money by going here, but almost 40 pds rt from the train station blew that. The other reason I booked here was to golf. I couldn't really find anything about rates or tee times from the hotel site, I also tried other sites. Only to discover as I drove into the hotel, I see a sign for free twilight golf for hotel guest. That would have been nice to know! I mentioned this to the golf pro after finding out that there was no golf that morning! He didn't seem to care, unless you can't book golf ahead of time I wouldn't stay there. Front desk not much better, they wouldn't answer the phone from the train station, and after I got there she said she'd give me an outside line but failed.

Dear john g, thanks for leaving your review and I will share your comments with the team.

I'm sorry you found the golf bookings confusing, all details about our golf breaks can be found on our website, but I shall pass on your feedback about the staff you have mentioned.

I'm sorry you found the taxi fares to be higher than expected, I would always recommend doing re-search prior to booking your hotel.

Booked two rooms for one night. I enjoyed our stay and the college town. For me it was good for one night. If your not driving you can take the bar hill bus into town. Nice restaurants and great beer in town.

Room Tip: Plan to golf, that will make your stay that much better.

Myself and my partner recently took an Easter break at this hotel and were highly satisfied, the Hotel is situated just of the A14 and is very easy to find.
There is a small retail park with a large Tesco store within easy walking distance of the Hotel and also the Fox Inn if you are not having all your meals at the hotel.

We found that the restaurant service at breakfast time could sometimes be a little slow but this may have been due to the fact that it was Easter Monday (less staff?)and there was a large group in the hotel too. Overall though the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The leisure facilities were adequate with towels supplied for swimming or sauna/steam room use.

A bus service (Citi 5) runs from two stops close to the hotel if you don't want to drive in to the city centre but is best caught from the Acorn avenue stop as if you take the bus from the retail park it adds around ten minutes to the journey because the bus picks up at approximately five stops around the housing estate behind the retail park, and then at Acorn Avenue before joining the motorway.

When returning on bus from the city centre the bus stops just before the roundabout which the entrance to the Menzies hotel is situated on if you alight here it saves a walk back from the retail park.

Room Tip: As the hotel is very close to the A14 motorway some of the rooms can be a little noisy if you like t...
