Surprisingly warm in the sleeping bag provided. Not a big deal to walk up to the cable car station for the toilet in the night. Obviously no washing/changing facilities but definitely worth going.
Wonderfully quiet and sound proof

some previous reviews have been odd with people moaning about the cold and noise and no bathroom - seriously its a hotel made of ice - what do you expect - its meant to be cold! Rooms are separated from the dining hall by a curtain so totally get that noise would be a problem if you want to sleep and others want to party but an ice door would freeze shut obviously so nothing else can be done, you do need to go for the experience and not expect something luxurious. we were the only guest staying that night so had the hotel to ourselves which was awesome but i would like to be back on a party night too.

its quirky and a definite thing to tick off anyone's bucket list, the staff were great and we had access to a room at the cabin to warm up and leave our things dry. if we wanted to give up ice sleeping in the night we were provided with the mobile number to wake up someone and get access in the cabin for the rest of the night at an 80lei per person cost - again previous reviews have moaned about this but its not fair to expect a second room without paying for it and hopefully it deters people disturbing the staff in the middle of the night because of getting bored. once i was snuggled with the sleeping bag mostly closed over my head i soon warmed up - and more so than i expected.

food at the cabin was great, food in the ice hotel was also great but no better than the cabin food so really it is a bit overpriced, it includes a shot, but could be more worthwhile with a few more drinks included, your essentially paying for the experience of eating in the ice hotel, maybe if there were more guests the atmosphere would have added to the experience,

staff were fantastic, catered to my friends complex diet requirements and we went for the trek through the tunnel - really cool to do

Me & my girlfriend spent a night at the Ice Hotel last week.

As a one-off experience, it's worth it, and very good value (especially compared to the cost of an Ice Hotel in Sweden!). The Ice Dinner is also worth it for the complete experience.
The surrounding Mountain Scenery is also beautiful.

If your travelling there independently (as we did) you can get the Belea Bus there (15 EUR per head from Sibiu to cable cable) but will probably have to arrange a taxi back (At least 50 EUR for a Taxi from cable car to Sibiu).

We had a wonderful experience. We ate in the ice restaurant and the meal was very good. The staff were very helpful. We had a great time however the ice bar does get extremely slippery. The chalet hotel is also very good, most of the staff were helpful and polite but some appeared uncaring but I think that this was because they did not have understood us. Lots of fun activities to do and the scenery is amazing. A most do experience

Stayed here as part of a multi city break to Romania with friends. The location is magical at Lake Balea in Sibiru, 6,000ft high in the Fagaras Mountains. The hotel is a sizeable ice structure, with a central spine decked out with Ice Tables and chairs; bedrooms peel off left and right of the spine. There is a well stocked bar for drinks and a music system too - very atmospheric !! The bedrooms are ice sculpted and the walls feature ice patterns and designs. Every bedroom has ice sculptures in the room - we had an armchair and small table !! We slept on an elevated ice platform, wooden slats, a mattress, deer skins, then an antartic sleeping bag , together with 4 extra thermal layers....... once settled in , cold was not a problem. A one off experience that was truly memorable.

We stayed for one night in an igloo. It was a novel experience but not one I wish to repeat.

The hotel could be excellent, but currently it is poorly organised and it is abundantly clear that the staff are disinterested in guests. The whole experience felt gimmicky and money-centric.

The weather was poor when we visited so activities were limited and there really isn’t a great deal to do once you’re up there. I was surprised that guests of the hotel are required to pay for the cable car bearing in mind it is the only way to reach the hotel. Make sure to queue on the left hand side, which is the priority queue for hotel guests. The sign stating this is in Romanian and fairly subtle.

Payment by card was limited so I strongly suggest you take lots of cash with you. We paid €57 each for dinner at the ice restaurant, which absolutely wasn’t worth it. The food is made at the neighbouring chalet and, whilst nicely presented, it was lukewarm and fairly uninspiring.

Despite having paid for a room for 3 nights and arriving on day 2 due to a change of plans, we were still expected to leave our belongings in a shared room in the chalet. We never had any problems security-wise, but I felt uncomfortable entering the room to find another couple in their underwear. It also wasn’t made clear to us that access to the room would be unavailable after a certain time in the evening. If you stay in one of the ice hotel rooms or an igloo the only option you have for a toilet is to trek to the cable car station. The snow was knee-hip deep when we visited and we had to dig out the doorway to the cable car station. We were not provided with any light for use at night which would really have been helpful.

The rooms in the ice hotel are very small and separated from the bar/restaurant only by a thin curtain. There’s no chance of any sleep until all the revellers have retired for the evening. Similarly, there is one big igloo which contains four separate rooms. These are larger than the rooms in the ice hotel but, again, there isn’t a great deal of privacy.

This was not a luxurious experience but it could definitely be improved. I’m glad I did it but I’m not keen to return!
