We had initially booked accommodation here, as we had a family event taking place in the village and wanted to be as close as possible. I never thought to ask if the rooms had en-suite facilities and was really shocked on arrival to find that not one room has. BUT... the owners were great about it and very apologetic. Yes, we had to find a hotel elsewhere and it was bit of a pain, but we returned that night to have dinner with other family members in the restaurant and had a great time. We thought the quality of the meal was well above a normal pub standard and was very well priced. They also had a reasonably good selection of wine. We have no doubt that if we lived locally we'd be regulars, but we'd never stay here... unless the bedrooms get en-suite facilities... one day!

A walk through the snow was rewarded by a warm welcome from the proprietors and bar staff and two roaring log fires. The food (lunch) was excellent and a 'light' meal more than adequate for lunchtime when you are dining out in the evening. Nothing was too much trouble - high chair and extra plates for two year old. The men of the party enjoyed the beers and I loved the home-made sloe gin and was tempted to try the apricot brandy as well. Great place that exceeded expectations.

Stayed in the area with friends for New Year. Booked dinner for New Year's Eve as within walking distance of our accommodation. Checked out restaurant on Sat eve prior and found we were the only people dining, despite the fact that they serve excellent food! It also appeared we were only table booked for New Year's Eve but thought there might be a crowd in the bar but alas not too many. The main thing I would like to say about this establishment is that the four of us had one lunch (albeit sandwiches) and two dinners and spent quite a bit of money on drinks and yet neither the landlord nor the landlady felt obliged to make our acquaintance at any point nor to wish us a Happy New Year when the time came. The only saving grace for us with regard to this inn was the chef and Ted the barman who was a lovely friendly young man. Punters were friendly and several came over and wishes us a Hapy New Year. Wouldn't visit again - unless of course there was a change of ownership.

Although we live some way from Chelsworth, this is one of our favourite country pubs and we visit it quite regularly.
It has a superb setting in a picturesque village and across from a small river.
In the summer we always eat in the pretty garden, but being Autumn we ate in the atmospheric old bar. Commendably much of the bar is still set out as a pub and has not been packed with dining tables
As always we had reasonably priced and good, if not excellent, food. The real ales are well kept.
Recommended.

I stopped here for a meal, after a day out in Norfolk & Suffolk. I arrived just as the pub was opening at 6pm. As I walked in I was greeted by the bar staff, all very friendly and cheerful.

The pub has a good selection of bitters, and a very nice menu. I choose the Chicken meal, and very nice it was too, for sweet I had Devon apple tart and custard, it was excellent.

The service was excellent, from a very cheerful waitress.

All in all a very nice village pub with plenty of character. I will visit again soon.

A lovely small pub with lots of charm. A good choice of beers and the menu offers good choices from bar food to restaurant food. Open fires add to the atmosphere and you can also bring your dog. Sunday lunchtime is great with snacks provided on the bar.

The Peacock is situated in a stunning little village called Chelsworth, if I am honest I think it has got some great owners that are slowly but surely making a come back for The Peacock! As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by smiling and friendly staff (at the time the bar person was serving someone, but still acknowledged we had walked in) So onto the food...well it was amazing presentation was good and the flavours all worked well. Hats off to the chef.

If you are looking for a great pub with no bells and whistle's on it then you definitely need to come and visit! Dogs are welcome which is always nice if you have been out walking. I will be going back (already have)!
