Rose Valley Lataguri Forest Retreat

From Bagdogra airport to Lataguri, we used the prepaid taxi. It took us about 2 hrs 15 min for the drive to the Rose Valley Resort (cost- 1580 INR). The path to Lataguri after you get past Siliguri is awesome! It is a serene road lined with lush green fern beds on either side with the dense majestic jungle beyond. After you go past the ticket counter for the Gorumara national park, you turn on to a mud road and after a 10 min drive, will reach the Rose Valley resort.

Situated at the edge of the jungle, this resort stands out among the many other places on the way (we looked into 2 other places) and offers great forest views. The super deluxe room we had booked was very very spacious with 2 sit-outs (one overlooking the jungle and the other the gardens) and a changing area. The bathroom could have been neater but it is decent . It sorely needs some refurbishing. There is a bathtub too but it was dirty. The beds were hard. But the resort is well maintained. There are lovely gardens, small ponds etc. and it is a huge property. There is also a children's park.

It got completely dark around 5pm and the sounds of the jungle took over. It was a clear starry night and it was absolutely beautiful. At around 7.30 pm, they was a tribal dance show (bonfires are arranged too on request) which was ok. We got to see these shows for free as our cottage overlooked the stage! It is a very calm and serene place.

Given its remote location, though there are not much options here foodwise, you get excellent food. The dal and parathas were awesome and the prices are reasonable too. The service is good too. There is no internet access in the rooms but the manager was very helpful and lent us his Airtel data card (no other card works here) for an emergency. The travel desk is good and they help out with details on getting tickets to the safari for the Gorumara national park and also recommend other places nearby.

Right next door, there is Hotel Dreamland, a newly constructed hotel, which was just opened two weeks back. This might give the Rose Valley Resort some competition. But for now, the Rose Valley Resort is the best place in the region.

Room Tip: Choose cottages that have sitouts facing the forest. It is a great experience!

It will take you a little over 2 hours from Bagdogra Airport to reach this place. Near to the jungle and in a secluded part. A new hotel has come up just before this one and yet to be operational. Hotel Dreamland. The resort is beautiful inside with well maintained lawns and garden. There are all total 12 cottages and spacious. Each unit accommodates two cottages and with taxes each rooms comes to Rs. 4000/- a night. The cottages have one bed room, one sitting place facing the lawns and another room facing the jungle. The room facing the jungle is without any furniture but is excellent for putting up the extra cot if you require. Only thing is that the AC is not there. But if you keep the door between the bed room and this one open it might work. The bathroom is spacious with a bath tub and good fixtures. However, there is no continuous hot water supply and you have to manage with a geyser. Two bath towels are given but no hand towels. Soap, Clinic Shampoo sachet and dental kits were provided. There is a changing room too but place to keep your clothes is not adequate. The LCD TV offers most of the channels. The common verandah between the two cottages could have been cleaner. Coming to the bathroom, there is no separate shower cubicle which is a major shortcoming because every time you take a bath the entire bathroom will become wet. Moreover shower curtains a must to separate the wash basin from the bath tub which can help two persons to use the bathroom simultaneously. The front office needs to be more friendly. There was no one to greet us when we entered the resort and a welcome drink from the resort could be welcoming and refreshing. The housekeeping is ok but very miser with the tea bags and coffee sachet for the in house electeric kettle. We wanted coffee and was promptly handed over but they asked if they can take away the tea bags! An evening turn down service could have been better. The restaurant - needs a huge improvement from the food part. The dishes doled out were very very ordinary and the chef is very comfortable using only the powder masala available. That made us sick. However, the paratha and alu dom served at breakfast was good. The children play area is good and kept the children entertained. The staff were helpful. They have a back up generator which worked fine. In the evening at some point of time they can put off the lights in the lawn which will help us to see the stars in the sky. The travel desk is very good and excellently managed by Mr. Arun Gope. The safari at Gorumara is good but at Jaldapara it is a short one with visits to two watch towers. You can also consider visiting Leopard Rescue Centre enroute Jaldapara. Rosevalley resorts definitely recommended but with little improvements here and there it could be an outstanding one.

Visited this place last august in complete rain. Oh my god! What an experience we had. Good cozy rooms and great foods with excellent cleaning workers made the stay soothing. Peace of mind was at its best in these remote surroundings. Friendly setting and the bar was awesome. Nearby Gorumara forest is a must visit. The memories of this place will live with me for a long time. You have to visit this place to feel its charm.

If you have just got married and looking for an ideal honeymoon trip in a tranquil ambiance or trying to take a quick break from the hustle bustle of the city life then this is the best place I must say. I was simply enchanted after visiting the Rose Valley Lataguri Forest Retreat some while ago. Nearby Gorumara forest made the journey more soothing with the typical mystic touch of the nature. It was such a delight that I actually got bit sad while coming back. Importantly, this place is well connected with other important nearby junctions. In one word, Rose Valley Lataguri Forest Retreat is worth-visiting!!
