The folks at Surf Tours are family. The beach in front of the surf club has waves for all skill levels and the instructors are available to help, and keep company, all kinds of surfers (and non-surfers). The food was great, dinner was always a fun affair, and there are always delicious snacks available. The town is authentic, safe, and not run through by tourists. The staff knows about some of the most epic breaks which can be reached by their boat. Skip the crowded beaches in southern nicaragua and get up to the gem of mirarmar!

This is guaranteed good times! This is my 2nd trip here...and I don't ever go to the same place twice. The location is ideal, the guides are helpful, and the attitude is laid back. The food is interesting, healthy, plentiful, and delicious. I am doing the "learn-to-surf" package, and am thrilled with the encouragement from the guides, and fellow campers. I've traveled all around the world over the past 15 years, and am impressed with the attention to detail Greg, Kayla, and Alex have put into this place. They are extremely accommodating of any special needs that CAN be met in Nicaragua. I'm looking forward to a 3rd trip here! Highly recommended!!

if surfing is your dig then this place has exactly what you need. great waves less then a few minutes away, a knowledgeable and fun staff, and even a boat the can help transport you to the best surf spots.

however, the most redeeming part of my experience with STN was the hanging out with the staff and the downtime at the camp. to call the staff "staff" is almost an understatement. they are awesome, and quickly make STN feel more like your own collective beach house than just a camp. the food is exactly what you want after a long day and, if your are a wiz in the kitchen, you can even volunteer to cook!

overall, STN have been one of my favorite stays in all of central america.

I went down solo to puerto sandino..after deciding to try this place ....
The hotel is on cliffside w offshore wind in the a.m. and a unique set up...the food is cooked well and ready to eat usually after each surf.
I had a real fun time there by scoring good waves, btw the pic of the guy pulling in on the perfect left backside is Jeremy & the other guy laying on board watching in the pit was me. ( yyew)
Greg, Sean,Will and the nicaraguan crew all charge the surf and are real tight fun crazed crew...they live the surf life and try to keep the brazos in gear.
I was a lil bummed on the crowds..after a full lineup and am used to so cal. crowds, but was worth every penny to see the central American exotic culture in its most simplistic essence.
Surfing freight trains 5-7 foot was super fun...dont get caught inside , just try to paddle your sideways lap around and hit the first or inside second peak accordingly!
BOOK A TRIP / get Rachel to shoot your boat/beach pics and pay her.. you will be glad to score in the central north area , nica core .
Dont expect the five star high end hotel etc. or your own room here, but expect warm water and hot sun with at least 4 surfable spots nearby with head high waves . fyi legitimate guides and yummy local foods.

Aloha
Scott

The crew/staff on hand at SurfToursNicaragua is what differentiates these guys from the other camps in the area- they are helpful, kind and patrol the lineup to make sure everyone gets waves and other surf visitors respect the lineup. I've been to Nicaragua >10 times and I can say that if you want to surf central Nicaragua and one of it's premier waves- freight trains, you should stay with these guys. They were up at 5am and had their boat out at the beach by 5:30 so we could get a full morning of surf and be on it ... they made a light breakfast (cut fruit, cereal and coffee) beforehand followed by eggs and pancakes when we got back. The food was very good given the remoteness of this camp. There isn't much else to do in the area but surf or lie on the beach, although Leon is 30min away which means you can pop up there for fun/sight-seeing/dinner/partying.

They picked us up promptly from the airport, had a good selection of rental surfboards and the compound is nice for the area. The rooms are typical surf camp rooms, fairly spartan but completely functional and had AC.

Greg the current surf camp manager is really nice and is running a good operation- dealing with Alex, the owner, was also easy and pleasant. Sean is a classic surf guide, full of stories and advice if you need it.

Tides matter at this location (like most)- shortly after low tide is best for Freights, mid-tide for Pipes and the left off the reef out front seems to work on most tides.
