“Very enjoyable evening and delicious food”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

Three friends and I turned up on the off chance to have a meal on Monday evening. It wasn't very busy but we were given a warm welcome by the barmaid/waitress. The open fires were lovely and I liked the big sofas and enjoyed looking at all the artifacts on the walls.
We chose the Lamb from the extensive menu. The menu stated that we'd have to allow an extra 15 minutes for this which was fine. When it came out we all said Wow! as we were astonished at the size of it. The waitress was extremely helpful and catered for our needs without question. We really enjoyed what we chose. We decided that after such a hearty meal that we didn't have room for a whole dessert each so we had 2 between 4 of us. Again, what we chose was going to be an extra 15 minutes...we needed a while for our dinner to go down anyway so that was no problem. Believe me it was well worth the wait!! We chose the chocolate fondant with ice cream and it's got to be the best I've ever tasted. The music was great and the the whole place had a comfortable feel to it. I'd definitely come again and tell everyone about our experience. Thank you :0)

“Average at best.”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

Friday night, had not booked and the look of panic on the landladies face as we ask for a table was a picture.

They had a 'jazz night' and were not sure that they could fit us in but fit us in they did (I only counted 3 tables enjoying the music)

The meal itself was a fairly uneventful affair. It did what it was supposed to but certainly was nothing special.

We only popped in as the welcome at the near by Butt Inn was non-existent but certainly will not be returning.

“Great food and great hospitality”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

Visited here with friends and it was well worth the journey(weather was awful). The food choices were great even for my husband who doesn't eat meat. Portions were good and good value for money. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the service was fantastic. Would definitely recommend a visit to this establishment.

“Great pub, great food.”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

I had Sunday lunch with two friends. We ate in the bar and i particularly enjoyed the range of local ales on offer. Two of us had the beef pie which was exceptionally good - a generous slice from a large pie with excellent short-crust pastry served with finely sliced potatoes lightly sauteed with onions, and a selection of vegetables. My other friend had the liver with black pudding mash which she enjoyed. A delightful English pub a mile off the A4 west of reading - well worth seeking out!
