OK so its not the most spectacular or best Castle you'll ever visit. However if you any interest in our country's history then you will enjoy this. Add to this the superb views from the roof across The Solent and you can easily while away an hour or two. Best enjoyed in fine weather unless you like it rough. The chap in the entrance shop is an excellent salesman for the place and good with kids.

The photographs on English Heritage website might give an impression that it is a full-size castle with a great deal to see. In reality, we spent there about 15 minutes, which included taking photos on the roof. It is an old little fort, which was actually used in 20th century, therefore, it was almost fully updated with modern features. There is not much to see, except for the stunning views from the roof.

I'm glad we visited, since we had a membership and didn't have to pay. I wouldn't go to far to visit it though, unless you also visit the Sea City Museum and the Old Merchant's House in Southampton :)

Nice little fort. Have membership so didn't cost any more. Not many people here so plenty of space for the toddler to explore. Great views of southampton water and the solent. Not much else down here though

The historical importance of these castles in the south is clear, but this is a very small castle and there's not agreat deal see. I'm glad I've seen it and the kids were amused for 10or15 minutes, but don't go too far out of your way to visit. Nice views. Very pleasant staff.
