Just got back from our Groupon weekend away and we were really really impressed!

Arrived and we were shown to our room (room 2) which was second from the end of a row of 10 chalets. The room is well furnished with a comfortable bed, a small desk and a wall mounted LG TV. The TV has a selection of freeview channels and lots of movies you can rent as well which was an unexpected bonus. The ensuite shower is a rainfall shower and comes with free shower gels, shampoo and conditioner and moisturiser which is handy.

The room also has an ironing board, an iron, hair dryer and a safe for any valuables you may wish to leave in the room. There is also a giant mirror which is slightly disconcerting and I'll admit we turned round as you felt like someone was always watching you!

The bed is soft - a little too soft in my personal opinion and some firmer pillows would be good but that's just my own preference.m

The only criticism I had of the room was the window at the front of the room gives you very little privacy which is a bit of a shame but on the plus side there is also a little sitting area out the front of each chalet which is very private and I can imagine would be lovely on a summers evening.

The food for our meal was incredible and the service was brilliant. I had the goats cheese starter which was very light and my husband had the boneless pork rib which was beautiful - I'd highly recommend it! We both then had steaks as a main which were perfectly cooked and for dessert I had the banofee pie and he had the creme brûlée which were again both wonderful.

We treated ourselves to a bottle of LP Rose which was a reasonable price and perfectly chilled.

The breakfast was good but I'd recommend having the eggs Benedict with the sauce in the side as there is rather a lot of it.

We would totally go again and recommend it to anyone, very impressive service and excellent food. Total bargain :-)

The Crown Inn at Playhatch has a lot to commend it but when you add a Groupon deal into the equation it surpasses all expectations. The deal was £89.00 for a double room, 3 course dinner and breakfast. As mentioned in previous reviews, the Crown has a South African influence to it's gastro-pub-type restaurant and the overall ambience is very welcoming. We checked in via the restaurant and were shown to our rooms - upmarket chalet style accommodation in the grounds - and we were very impressed. Lovely decoration and furnishings, high ceilings, large bathroom with walk-in shower, nice firm bed with crisp white linen - altogether quite classy and very comfortable. We booked our table for 8.30 pm and were advised that we could have anything on their extensive menu except the fillet steak and the larger sirloins - choices of steak were either 8oz or 12 oz. That was a nice surprise as we had expected to be offered a cut-down version of the menu as we were on the Groupon deal. My wife and I had the ribeye steaks and our friends had the larger sirloins for which they paid a bit extra. All steaks were spot on and the accompanying chunky chips were pretty good too. A rocket salad was ordered on the side. I forgot to mention that the starters were: dressed crab - gorgeous; tiger prawns in a piri piri sauce - beautiful and tomato soup - homemade a delicious was the verdict. Although we were pretty full, we still indulged in a sweet - mine a crème brulee with South African liqueur and I can't remember what the others were. A lovely meal served by friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Breakfast next morning was full English cooked to order with cereals and orange juice, tea and coffee. Again, perfectly cooked and well presented - and a nice change from a help yourself buffet breakfast. An excellent one night stay and well worth a return visit.

We recently enjoyed a one night stay here with our 10 month old baby. The staff were friendly and the room stylish, well equipped and clean (only -ve...the shower was a bit cold).
The menu offered an excellent choice and the food did not disappoint. Breakfast was also delicious :-)

Recommended.

I went to The Crown with friends for the Sunday carvery. Slightly more than other places at £13 but definitely worth the money! The meat was succulent, full of flavour and cooked perfectly and all the veg and roast potatoes were cooked to perfection too.
Only downsides are the drinks are quite pricey and we did have to queue for a while to get served our carvery as it was very busy.
Would definitely go back and will recommend to friends

The rooms are separate from the pub so were quiet. Very well appointed room, all the expected conveniences of a hotel room. We were attending a nearby event so did not have evening meal, breakfast was great, nice setting, with a bit of character.

The staff were very friendly and helpfull, the steaks were cooked to perfection to the way we ordered, The chef changed the dressings to our requirments, Very good cuts of meat, and nicely presented hot meals, The real ale tasted as it should be, We have eaten here before and will definatly return, We think the barn area is the best place to get a table.

Room Tip: Get a table in the barn area

As a fellow South African I will rave about the amazing steaks and wine... it takes me back home!!

The service is always top notch and the staff are very friendly and accommodating as well as knowing their menu very well.

The steak is always a high quality cut and is cooked to a professional standard of your request.

The prices are a few quid more than your average pub, but the quality of the food and overall experience is definitely worth it!

Ideal setting for a family dinner or romantic occasion. I visit about once a month and it's always a pleasure.
