Reviewed 19 August 2011

arrived to a warm friendly welcome from Mark. were extremely pleased with the massive room and huge ensuite. as we were visiting friends and their new baby, we were glad we had somewhere comfortable and pleasant to stay inbetween visits during our stay. location was just spot on,and easy walk to the beach and cliffs. low tide was fantastic.
meeting Jacqui at the accomodation was hospitallity through and through....and nothing was too much trouble. breakfast was just what was needed for the start of a long day, and we would recommend a stay here and we certainly will be back....

Room Tip: we saw 2 of the doubles with ensuites and each was excellent.

We had a lovely short break and we felt like part of a happy family while we were there, in the best sense. The room and facilities were first class and the location suited us. It's on the doorstep of the historic St. Bees and Whitehaven and the start of the ever popular coast to coast venture. The breakfast was plentiful and lasted us till evening meal time. Jacqui and Mark were marvellous hosts. We gave Jacqui the edge on breakfast but we'll be back to give Mark a chance with his infamous omelette. Renowned worldwide - he tells us.

Room Tip: Tip - choose Jacqui and Mark and you'll return to West Cumbria.

I stayed for four nights as a base for walking and sketching the area around Ravenglass, Eskdale & Wastwater, and was given the huge room mentioned in recent reviews. Comfy bed, big freesat TV and the biggest ensuite bathroom I've ever seen.

Jacqui & Mark couldn't have been more welcoming or generous. Beer on arrival, introduced to the other 2 guests, with whom I ate a delicious evening meal each night, and it felt more like a house party than a B &B. No pressure to socialise more than I wanted, though, and I used my room to work on my sketchbook after the meal.

The breakfasts were platefillers ( I didn't need any lunch) all delivered with more cheery chat. Amazing, when they both have day jobs as well! Please bear this in mind when you stay, and accept an earlier breakfast time than some B & Bs - believe me, it's worth it!

Add in a quiet, rural location, a big garden with seats and decking, ample car parking, and 2 adorable labradors, what more could you ask?

Stayed at Whistling Jacks for just one night (to break up a long journey from Scotland down to Wales) and wish we'd stayed longer than the one night. We were greeted by Jackie who offered us some wine and refreshment. We were amazed by the beautiful barn conversion building (Mark is a credit to his profession by doing such a great job of this over two years!), and even more amazed when we saw our room - carved wooden bed, tv, and a massive bath/bathroom... Just what a nice place to be.
After going out a for a meal in the evening, we were greeted back to the guesthouse with a glass of wine - and sat up till gone midnight putting the world to rights with Jackie and Mark.
Again, what a lovely couple, and what a lovely place to stay! Great value for money too.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at this brilliant B and B. Mark and Jackie bent over backwards to make sure we were happy, and it really felt like we had stayed for far longer than a couple of nights when we left.

Special mention has to go to Mark's Spanish omelette - brilliant breakfast treat. Thank you so much for making our stay so great.

We stayed here for one night before our coast to coast ride,
Mark and Jacqui are two of the friendliest people you're likely to meet.
Superb accomodation, home cooked food and excellent value for money.
Would definitley recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay for a weeks retreat or coast to coast ride.
Many Thanks

Whistling Jack's guest house is a huge converted barn with a lovely rural surrounding and a beach in walking distance of around 20 minutes. We visited many B&B's during our trip across northern England but this one was the by far the best one. The hosting couple Jacqui and Mark made us feel like old friends coming to stay not just just any strangers, and the dinners and breakfasts we were served were better than in any restaurant we were before and after. Our room was really spacious, around 300 sq. feet, and the en-suite bathroom bigger than some hotel bedrooms. The bed was quite soft and comfy and we had a wonderful sleep each night, as it was perfectly quiet outside. If we ever should come back to Whitehaven we will surely be Marks and Jacqui's guests again.
