We found this 'little gem' whilst looking for places to stay near St.Bees where we were attending a wedding on 2nd June. When we looked up the reviews prior to booking we were amazed by all the positive comments. We were extremely lucky as our party consisted of 2 adults, 1 adult and 2 children & 2 adults and 2 children and our little Staffie 'Sky'. When we spoke to Jacqui to talk through the booking she was so accomodating and we ended up getting 4 rooms and paying for 3......i.e. our 2 kids ended up in the twin room, allowing us some welcome privacy. Anyway a couple of months passed and we were all looking forward to this stay. On our arrival we met both Mark & Jacqui and a couple of Mark's work/drinking pals ! And of course, their 2 beautiful black labrador's. What can we say.........1st impressions........Whistling Jack's is an amazing barn conversion in a stunning setting. The inside just gets better.......the rooms are enormous and well attired, including the even more enormous bathrooms. We were all suitably impressed (and my mum is very fussy!) We opted to eat in that Friday night and again it was faultless. Apparently Mark's omlettes are legendary.........sadly we didn't get to experience them as he had to go out to work early both mornings but his Flemish stew may yet achieve the legendary status. Also the kids ended up with chicken kebabs, which were also amazing. Anyway, for all those who choose Whistling Jack's and find Mark isn't there for breakfast, you need not worry for Jacqui is equally capable in the kitchen and we enjoyed two fabulous breakfasts, where nothing was too much trouble and everything was fresh, hot and very tasty.
The boys enjoyed Mark's company on the Friday night watching Wigan trounce his beloved Leeds at Rugby and the girls and Jacqui seemed to be gossiping and catching up as if long lost friends. In fact, the theme is, that these two fantastic hosts appear to be long lost friends that one would visit again and again as it is so friendly, warm and accomodating it is NOW absolutely clear why the reviews about this place are so spectacular !
We would all like to thank Mark & Jacqui for a wonderful stay and apologies if we drank too much of your wine on Friday ! Also, sorry Sky chewed Missy & Finder's ball to pieces, it would seem she also had a great time !

Room Tip: The family room on the ground floor also has a massive bathroom. It has a massive bath if you like...

Beautiful place, beautiful accomodation and wonderfully hospitable owners. Even our request for a 6:45 breakfast didn't break the smile on Mark's face. Great value! Would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting the area and would definately use again if I'm back up that way. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Had a lovely weekend with my son and dog, Jacqui and Mark are really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Rooms are amazing and the food is lovley, especially Mark's omelettes. The barn and surrounding area are amazing great views of the sea from the end of the lane. Would recomend if you are in that area of Cumbria you stay there. Black labs Missy and Finder are very friendly, our dog made himself at home as soon as he walked through the door (a bit too much at home sometimes).

Having spend the last 5 months commuting between the amazing Whistling Jacks and home, I need to advise you to STAY THERE!! It is by far the best B&B I have stayed at in the UK and I have travelled alot. I don't think the photos fully do the place justice (no offence to the photographer!) The rooms are huge, with perhaps the biggest bath & bed I have ever laid in in most rooms (over 5 months I sampled a few). There is also a wonderful welcoming communal lounge in the beautiful big old converted barn. I loved the 15 min stroll down to the beach checking out the baby lambs and other wildlife on the way. Fantastic views at St Bees. But the highlight of the stay is Mark, Jacqui and their canine companions. They're so friendly, the food was delicious (and lots of it, I definitely recommend paying the small amount extra for eveining meals) & so welcoming with a glass of wine. WJs can be anythin you want from a stay; you can just have a chilled out getaway, have a sporty one, or put the world (and 70s music) to rights over a few beers. You'd be foolish to stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: All are fantastic & excellent value
