I am a local to this area, but my stay did really feel like a great get away. Rather than staying with my friends in a soul-less hotel, with everyone locked away in their own room for the night, and only meeting for breakfast and activities, The Victorian Barn provided the answer to my needs. I hired two suites - The Hayloft and The Granary and we could all mix and mingle any time of the day or indeed night.

It was the perfect location for my birthday weekend celebrations, plenty of parking, plenty of fresh air, and a perfect location for a bit of local Zorbing! A mixture of extreme activity and pampering on my doorstop. The swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub all added to the occasion.

We were greeted by a warm welcome, but left to come and go at our leisure.

Thanks for having us, same time next year?

A large group of us came to the Victorian Barn for a hen party. As there were so many of us we were worried that any other guests may find us a bit noisy, but as all the accomodation is set into different 'suites' they assured us they didn't hear a thing. The owner and her family were lovely and helpful - with some rather cute dogs. We were allowed to bring activities to the Barn (hire karaoke and a dance lesson with an instructor) with no problems. The kitchens are a good size and there is plently of room for fridge food and cupboard items, plus lots of utensils etc. The bedrooms were almost all ensuite and these were very clean. Some were smaller than others, the larger rooms had wall length windows which were beautiful looking onto the rural countryside. The lounge was big enough for 16 of us to sit comfortably with big sofas and chairs. There is also a hot tub and trampoline which i would recommend! We didn't use the pool but it looked tempting and there was a good steam room.

I'd recommend coming here if you want a relaxing week or weekend with family/friends. It is perfect for self catering and there is loads of countryside to explore. You will need a car to get anywhere where there are shops etc. Phone reception was an issue for some networks but we found Orange phones worked best. One thing you will need to bring is a towel for the pool as this isn't provided and a hairdryer.

Room Tip: Bring a hairdryer and shower toiletries

We stayed for a short break, lovely quiet part of Dorset. The children loved the pool and the freedom. The accomodation had everything we needed and more it was clean and comfortable lovely to relax in. Wish we could have stayed longer. See you next year.

Set in the heart of North Dorset I spent an enjoyable week at The Victorian Barn with my family. It has fantastic rural views and was just what we needed for a relaxing holiday together. It is in the heart of the countryside and a car is therefore essential to travel. A near complete absence of mobile phone reception at first came as a shock but soon became a welcome retreat from our hectic lifestyle.

We spent much of our time enjoying the surrounding countryside on foot and with our bikes. The accommodation had an open plan living area which suited our self-catering needs. The rooms were light and airy but smaller than we first imagined. One area which I feel needs a little attention would be the pool area as it is poorly maintained and has insufficient changing facilities for the family.

On our first morning using the pool we were interrupted by the owner who abruptly demanded to know who we were and what we were doing there. This was the first of several occasions where we found the staff to be unhelpful. Overall we feel that the accommodation is not great value for money despite its fantastic setting.
