“A Wonderful Afternoon”
Reviewed 31 July 2011

Spent half a day here. It was a wonderful surprise and a fantastic afternoon. The Air raid shelter was lovely and the planes were terrific. Each of the rooms with the history and the pictures were brilliant. The flight simulator was amazing. If you are over 16 you get to fly the jet - great fun and that alone was worth the £7.50 entry fee.
Also the kids have a fantastic time as loads of things to touch and see and they too get to try out a flight simulator.

“Great enthusiasm, let down a bit in delivery!”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

Nice little museum staffed by lots of very enthusiastic and friendly senior citizens, whom I presume are volunteers.

There's loads to see, but therein lies the problem. The curator obviously doesn't know what to leave out of the display collection. There are soooooo many artefacts and exhibits that many of them actually overlap and get in the way of other things. There was simply far too much going on, making it overwhelming and easily (although I say this with regret) leading to boredom.

Still, it was a nice way to spend an hour or so, with a great colleciton of old aircraft!

“A great museum and well worth a visit for adults and children.”
Reviewed 16 March 2011

The museum tells the story of Tangmere which was an important airfield during the Battle of Britain and the Second World War. It is run by a group of enthusiasts who are passionate about their museum. There are two halls with planes on display but my personal favourite area tells the story of the RAF during the Battle of Britain and the war through displays centred on individuals who were based at Tangmere.

Dennis Nicolson, who won the only VC by an RAF Fighter Command Pilot during WW2. Douglas Bader who despite having lost both legs flew fighter planes and spent time in Colditz. Dennis Noble who sadly crashed and many more indivuals.

There are also many personal articfacts and elements of social history to help bring the stories alive and make it very engaging. There is also a flight simulator for adults and a simplified version for children.

I reccomend a visit - it works for both adults and children
