“Well Located Jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

We were two senior couples on a mid-week holiday using TravelZoo vouchers. Beautifully furnished and maintained Inn with lots of comfy places to curl up and read a book or just relax in front of the big fireplace. We were in the first floor Wildflower Room with big overstuffed bedding/pillows, a fireplace (burns real wood!), and beautiful antique furniture. Not huge but extremely comfortable. The included breakfast to order was delicious. We also opted to have dinner here one night and it was also wonderful. Every single person with whom we came in contact at the hotel was professional, courteous, friendly and seemed genuinely caring that we were enjoying out stay. Great location, too. No TV and no telephone - Heaven! This is our new Santa Ynez go-to getaway!!

Room Tip: The three rooms on the gound level all have fireplaces and are handy to the common areas.

This is truely a great getaway place. No phone or TVs in the rooms but wifi to keep track of anything important. The dinning is outstanding goumet, both breakfast and dinner with dinner being an experience that you won't forget. (try the filet mignon). Wine tasting is within walking distance and of course so many around that you can't come close to trying most during just one visit. Try Cambria wines for their whites and Kenneth Volk for their reds out on Foxen Canyon. They are just fantastic. Look for their special rates which they seem to offer frequently.

Room Tip: The inn's owner is the gourmet chef and dinner is an experience worth having and remembering.

My husband and I have stayed at Ballard Inn maybe 3 times since 2010 when I wrote my first review. We found our most recent stay to be consistently excellent as our first!

We arrived at the tail end of happy hour. A wide assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, crackers, guacamole with chips was available in addition to different wines and sparkling water. You could either bring the food to your room or enjoy the comfy couches next to the fireplace or other seating areas around the inn.

My husband and I stayed in the Mildred Room, which is located upstairs and faces the parking lot in the back. I prefer the soft blue design compared to some of the other rooms (website photos are accurate). Again, I wouldn't say the inn has a 'wow' factor. However, it is tastefully decorated to be cozy and romantic in an understated way. Little perks, such as a large bottle of Pellegrino and homemade cookies at turndown service, made the stay a little more enjoyable.

We didn't have dinner at the Inn because we were really craving steaks at the Hitching Post (I do recommend having dinner at the Inn though!). However, breakfast in the morning was excellent as always and made to order with a choice of an "egg" (e.g., Eggs Benedict) or "carb" (e.g. Ebelskiver) special that changes daily in addition to the standard 2 eggs any style. While you wait for breakfast, there is a self serve station with a wide assortment of fresh fruit, juices, granola and baked goods. I've stayed at several B&B's and found the breakfast at Ballard Inn to be high on my list of best breakfasts. This is likely the reason why I keep coming back here when we are in the area.

Our main destination was to head to Big Sur, so we didn't spend as much time in the area as we normally would. However, for first timers to the area, the inn is in a great location where surrounding Los Olivos, Solvang and Buellton are just a short drive away and several wineries are also very close by. For non-alcoholic activities, there is an apple picking orchard (when in season) just a few minutes away which is a lot of fun.

This Bed and Breakfast with its resturant is close to all of the Santa Barbara Santa Ynez Valley wineries and is an outstanding way to rest and relax between trips througout the Valley. Early morning walks around the small 'town' of Ballard are great too.
For an outstanding couples getaway this is it, whether it be for a weekend, anniversary or place to celebrate the New Year. Every room is done in a different theme. Stayed here with friends for New Years last year and doing it again this year.
Chef Budi Kazali puts on amazing dishes and for the New Years Eve dinner it's a lavish dinner with wine pairing for all courses.

Room Tip: With only 15 rooms, reservations are a must; especially if during a holiday. All rooms are great.

Such a nice property for a relaxing weekend! The staff could not be nicer - everyone we met was great. The included breakfast is an impressive surprise. This is a clean, quiet, special occasion location.

On a recommendation, my wife and I were able to get a last minute dinner reservation and were completely spolied by the amazing service and fantastic location. The wine list is excellent and we enjoyed a very reasonable bottle of Chardonnay from Alma Rosa. My wife had the steak and I enjoyed the duck. Both meats were amazing and well presented. I only wish that we could have stayed here as well....

Terrific location for wine country tourists. Breakfasts were fabulous. Small town, good location, helpful staff. Clean and quiet rooms, very private. Can't think of 200 characters to write, sorry..............
