“Wonderful stay.”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

We have just returned from a week long stay at Hideaways! What a lovely place, The owners and the staff were all very friendly, informative and helpful. We have stayed in Oceanside 2 bedroom villa and had enjoyed it very much. Very clean, spacious, with 2 full bathrooms and the powder room, full kitchen, dining room and the living room. The balcony overlooking the ocean was wonderful place to be and relax listening to the waves.
The location is the best. Close to Georgetown and also not far from the airport, around 10 min drive. The hotel beach is nice, but we have discovered, just around the corner, wonderful Jolly Hall Beach, about a km long, and with hardly ever anyone there. The water was calm and the sand very soft. Shuttle service to town was a great feature, It goes a few times a day. Good way to get to the grocery store or even to the taxi boat that goes to Stocking island. The hotel has many accommodation categories and they are all wonderful> We have stayed on the ocean side and while you are close to the water and the beach, hill side is just across the street and has as comfortable accommodation but also spectacular views. So whatever fits your budget and the group you will enjoy it.
It is not an all inclusive so you have to prepare your food or visit some of the local restaurants. Splash is a great place to grab local specialty, drink, and pizza. But since we had a full kitchen we have cooked most of our meals. Some fresh food you can get from Exuma Market, but some of the dry food we brought from home. We loved Exuma, as the holiday destination since we love beaches, low key places and we enjoy meeting local people vs staying in big resorts.
Hideaway was such a great place to spend that long waited week of our family vacation and we will be back!

Room Tip: It is a good idea to rent a car and explore the island. We loved Little Exuma and enjoyed visiting M...

I rented an oceanfront cottage at the beginning of June 2013. These cottages are lovely, spacious and have GREAT views. I also took advantage of the hotel's free shuttle to town, which is great if you don't wish to rent a car or take expensive taxis. Another plus of the location: In addition to the onsite restaurant, there are two bars and restaurants just next door. Hit Frankie Bananas' happy hour on Friday night for the free appetizers and discounted beers! Most of the staff at Hideaways are very nice, but the one exception is the front desk receptionist. She is abrupt, bordering rude. She knows her job, but needs to be friendlier and more helpful. Loved the slow island vibe of Exuma!

Room Tip: I stayed in the #10 cottage and #14. Both were lovely and spacious.

I was just at Hideaways at Palm Bay First week in June .Right from arriving all the staff were pleasant very helpful, polite and go the extra to help out and provide anything you need or if it isnt right the owners will make it right which was nice because I locked myself out of my room at some unusual times but service came right away to let me in. Even when I could not open my room safe on my departure day I was told not to panic one phone call to the mangers had it taken care of within an hour told me dont worry about my misfortunes. The staff get to know you by your name, where your from and a good morning. Your just not a room number. My hillside room was more than I asked for or expected a nice view, clean one bedroom suite with full kitchen, living room and cold AC. Shuttle convieniant to Georgetown for groceries, meals,or dock to meet the water taxi. Tried some local flavor foods at different places were all good and at the Fish Shacks down the road great on a Sunday. Splash Bar N Restaurant was good food $20 bucket of cold beer nice. Pool tournament great way meet who is staying there also.Diving was all arranged thru Exuma Dive they have a nice big modern boat and was well run.If want all the benefits of all inclusive high end resort go to Sandals. If you a family run atmosphere, personal service and a great location with lots to see and do they will arrange it for you.Or just relax its that easy. Car rental nice if you want go Island exploring. Its was quiet there and so many nice beaches everywhere. Thanks to everyone at Palm Bay for making my first trip Exuma a pleasant one. Will return again.

Room Tip: Hillside nice views, or take a beach side villa if you want be close to water n Splash Bar

We rented an oceanfront villa which is not technically the hotel. So I can't comment on the hotel rooms. Our villa, which is owned and maintained by private owners, was awesome. We were supposed to be able to share the community amenities with Hideaway. We asked at the front desk about a free shuttle to Georgetown and the front desk lady said we weren't allowed to use it. I went in a few times to ask about other things, and she was not the friendliest. She would stare at the desk when we walked in.

We just got back from our second stay at Hideaways.

If you've never been to the Bahamas because you think it's too expensive and there aren't any all-inclusives this is your place!

It might not be all glossed-up like a big resort in Nassau but that's why you're foing to Exuma Right? it has an authentic feel. The feel that places lose when beach steips get all built up and the attention shifts from the customer to ensuring the pool is bigger and better than the hotel next door.

The rooms and villas at hideaways are impeccable, the service second-to-none and the location excellent.

The villas come with full kitchens and laundry facilities and the studios a kitchenette withiceowave, fridge etc.... This is what makes the vacation affordable - especially if you're a family or group of friends. We bring a suitcase of dry goods and shop just for fresh produce locally. This allows us to save enough to to enjoy a decent local meal each day at a restaurant without breaking the bank. As for drinks, we buy juices/alcohol/ mixers locally and enjoy amazing drinks all week for about 30 bucks! When we're lazy we head down to the hotel restaurant /bar down by the beach. It's a cash bar but well worth it. The drinks are stiff but tasty, and the staff great.

The hotel is on a beach (some villas are across the road-which seems to surprise some people -but they're on a hill and have the best views!). It's ok and has a little island just offshore with a small reef and some sea turtles. But it's best left to the snorkelers. The real jewel of this property is that a short five-minute walk down the hotel beach leads you to jolly-hall beach. Powdery pink/white sand and warm crystal clear turquoise water as far as you can see. Nothing on the bottom and at low tide you can walk right out and you'll only be up to your knees! Best of all, there's never anyone else on the beach!!!! For those who don't like the ocean, there are two small but well maintained pools near The main lobby. The hotel also has a huge range of water sports equipment to use as well.

Another great part of hideaways is that they have a shuttle that offers free trips into town four times a day. While it is technically within walking distance as some rental sites seem to suggest, it would be quite the long sweaty hike. Google maps doesn't tell you this!!!

Across from the hotel is a car rental agency, and the front desk staff and owners are great at explaining what there is to do and making arrangements. As the owner out it to us: There's tons to do on Exuma, it just isn't commercialized like other places are so you need to ask around and find it!

The one thing that's difficult is calling the hotel. We had very bad connections every time we called when reserving which was frustrating for everyone. But from our traveling experience, this is true of many islands and not a reflection of the resort. And with their weekly rates it just might be worth booking flight and hotel separately rather than as a package.

One last thing that we have learned from our trips to Exuma. Island time is different. Your meal might take an hour. Or your cab might be fifteen minutes late. No one is in a rush. If you find yourself irritated by this just remember : you're on a little island in paradise - what's the rush?! You came to relax and unwind. Have a drink and have a chat with the person serving you. It's the best way to learn about the island.

This hotel will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart!! My husband and I visited "Palm Bay" (as the locals or taxi drivers refer to it) for our honeymoon 5/20-5/26. Our flight landed at Georgetown very early in the morning so when we arrived- both Splash and the front office were still closed. Chris and I immediately dropped our bags and sat on the steps leading down to the water.... we needed to take it all in! What a stunning landscape- every shade of blue and green possible! We did have a little bit of a hard time during check in- Their internet was down which caused a number of issues… i.e. making the room key, running our credit cards, etc. The lady behind the desk told us that she would get us our room key’s later and had the staff open our room with the master key so that we could go ahead and get settled in- this was much appreciated!!!

SERVICE: The Hideaways are very true to their name… if you are going on vacation and you prefer constant interaction with the staff I.E. Room service, 24/7 front desk/concierge service, phones in your room, etc…. then this is probably not the place for you! Every single staff member that we met was absolutely wonderful!!! Anytime we had a question or needed advice- they were there to help! We went to escape from reality and that is exactly what Palm Bay offered us! When we wanted to go in town we hopped on the shuttle (which saves a ton of $$ and runs every 2 hours) We missed one of the shuttles one evening and decided to take a cab- it was $20. Kelly was the driver most of the time- Nice guy and gave us tips on where to go!

FOOD: The Property is a $30.00 cab ride from the airport and is nestled next to both Augusta Bay & Exuma Beach Resort. A five minute walk from the hotel towards George Town will bring you to the Fish Fry which is basically 10-20 shacks set up on the water that offer everything conch related plus much more! We loved being able to have options when it came to lunch and dinner. As mentioned in earlier reviews- Food and beverages are very expensive and meals take a while to get. We never had a meal that we didn’t enjoy but be ready to take your time and to pay for it!! At Splash (as well as 90% of other restaurants) 15% gratuity is automatically added to your checks. Chris and I really enjoyed talking with Anita! The first day of our vacation there we went for lunch at Splash- CNN was on and that is when we found out about the Tornado’s in Oklahoma. Needless to say, we were glued to the TV worried about our friends, family, and home. Every day after that Anita asked us how we were, whether our family was OK, etc. She was a very sincere woman and we are happy to have met her!

ROOM: Our cottage was fantastic! Clean, Comfy, the water pressure was great, and it was steps away from the beach! We stayed in Sunshine Palm #11- which had a direct view of the sunrise.

BEACH: The main beach at Palm Bay is very pretty and shallow... but a little rocky. But fear not.. There are at least 2 other beaches that we discovered by reading previous reviews. If you walk out towards the beach from Splash- make a left…. Its right past the storm wall! Gorgeous and the sand is so soft. If you want another beach even prettier than that just keep on walking you’ll run right into it when you cross over the private driveway! Looks like a postcard!

OVERALL: We had an amazing experience @ Palm Bay! Wouldn’t change a thing!

Went there may 1st 2013 for a week. been to Exuma before 3 times, but had not stayed here. A few years back, stayed at Peace&Plenty hotel just down aways- but ate here most times --so was familiar with Splash, the on site restaurant/bar. We stayed in units 33 &34 --absolutely GREAT - right on the beach, 100 ft.or so. Real nice rooms and so was the whole place - nice pool-pretty landscape. Stocking island always fun place- Chat n Chill bar/grill. My son and i went bonefishng[we have before 2-3 times]. GREAT guide Garth Thompson- he was patient, mannerly, and we did very well. He was always working to find us fish to cast to--no blind casting. get his # from desk.

Room Tip: # 33& 34 were great looks like all down around pool and beach were great but if a bit of buget...
