The studio apt. had plenty of room for 2, everything you could need-beach was beautiful, only about 50 feet away and almost deserted-beach chairs, kayak waiting on you. Peter was 1st class, full of info, rented us a car and gave us a tour-he's just an email away if you need him and if you don't need him you won't see him! If you plan on renting a boat Mimm's boats were nice and so were the people there but be sure you reserve one before you go, same with any tours or fishing you may want to do-be sure to drive to the end of the island to Santana's for fresh lobster lunch too.
Overall we can't say enough good things about the rental or Peter our host-Perfect vacation for us!
My husband and I had an amazing time staying at Sandy Palms! The unit is right on the beach and is a short couple of steps to one of the calmest beaches in Great Exuma! The hosts, Betty and Peter were always a quick email away and answered everything timely and accurately. Peter took the time to explain the island to us and gave us great tips on where to do and what to do. He was super welcoming and made us feel very comfortable. Safety was our least concern. The unit itself has everything you need. We cooked most meals in and the toaster oven was the best asset during our stay! The kayaks were fun to use to look for some turtles and the beach loungers helped to make your beach day comfortable! We rented a car through Peter, and it was an awesome decision! Exploring the island and then coming back to this unit and beach made our days simply amazing. I would highly recommend staying at Sandy Palms and we are definitely hoping to make a return trip!
The studio is directly on the beach, it is a very quiet place yet very close to all the facilities you may need, such as supermarkets, restaurants, bars, banks, etc, in one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. The studio is cosy and functional at the same time and Peter is a goldmine of useful information and insights on where to go and what to do in Exuma. Highly recommended!!!
Talk about the right place in the right location! This house is perfect. We rented the Studio, but would have loved to have the larger unit...but it's our fault for booking too late! So book early to make sure you get what you want. Close to one of the island's two grocery stores, and close to the meat man...who has the best steaks (and more) available on Exuma. Renting a car makes everything very available, so we ate out every evening.
close to the beach, clean, neighbors were not too loud, Peter is the perfect host
appliances are dated, but function ok.
Well located small studio apt. with direct access to a gorgeous long soft sandy beach. Beach is usually mostly deserted, and has resident green sea turtles that can often be seen. Studio is small, but allows a queen bed and useful kitchenette. Outdoor patio also comfortable for chilling. Exuma is lovely and quiet, and Betty and Peter who rent are able to help with a car or travel options.
We stayed for two weeks in the middle of November 2015. It was already pretty much off-season but the weather was still very nice most of the time.
The beach was beautiful indeed. We were usually alone and only a few other tourists were visiting the beach or some workers were working on a house around there. A little further out in the water are a lot of different little cays which can be visited by both kayak or stand up paddle which are included and located right next to the beach.
In the water we could find up to 5 turtles. Usually, you can find them by walking on one of the piers. They get fed a lot there that's why they stay there I think. One even bit me but it did not hurt at all :) You should keep in mind that they already get enough food and should not be fed additionally because their shell needs to be able to grow with them.
Peter explained us everything. He was extremely helpful and friendly. He wrote back per e-mail very quickly, visited us when we wanted to and booked trips for us. We recommend to book a trip to Staniel cay and the sea park (see the pigs and nurse sharks, caves and cays), to visit Chat n Chill on Stocking Island (and see the sting rays right at the beach) and to rent a boat to see the marked diving spots.
Since the apartment is some miles away from George Town its necessary to get a taxi or rent a car go get anywhere really (no public transport on Exuma). There was a grocery store 10 mins away by foot though. We had always a car in front of the apartment, which we could rent and use whenever we wanted to (not included in the price).
Wifi is included but speed is limited to 50kbps to 200kbps (usually faster during the night). So not always possible to watch Netflix etc. but we didn't not really miss it anyway.
