Fiji is beautiful just like Hawaii so for us it was where we stayed that made the difference. Makaira Resort made the trip special. Every morning dad got in the water, then an afternoon nap in his private cabana. In the evening, there was an excellent abundant dinner cooked by Chef John Llanes. This included talking story about "fishing" and a beer. Dad was so comfortable with the serene, beautiful resort. We had 2 bedroom, 2 bath beautifully furnished, very clean and open and spacious. Coconut water to drink everyday with excellent breakfast by "Bubba". John, Roberta and Bubba along with the friendly staff made us feel welcome and very comfortable. John is "master" fisher/waterman. He knows the area, best places to fish and dive and enjoys life. Roberta is knowledgable in the coral reef and is making it her personal mission to preserve the reef. You can stay in Fiji, but you need to stay at Makaira Resort it you want to really enjoy the beautiful lifestyle..

Room Tip: All separate houses and with great views so I have no preference.

Thank you so much for your kind words, it really does inspire us and we so enjoyed you both. Lots of good times. You both are underwater free diving inspirations. Speaking of which I wish you both were with us yesterday when we went to Desperation Point for a snorkel dive, it was absolutely magical. You both would have loved it and " Dad" would have been in heaven. there wasn't much we didn't see yesterday including the rare and endangered Napolean Wrasse. But we were thinking of you both.

A very big Thank You to everyone at Makaira for a relaxing, chill out holiday in absolutely beautiful surroundings! We desperately needed a quiet and private hidey hole for our holiday and Makaira provided it. The location is beautiful with the most magical ocean view, gorgeous sunsets, and the gardens at Makaira are outstanding. The owners are lovely people but the stand outs are the staff managers - Baba and Lucy. Wonderful service, warm and friendly guest liaison, and they will go out of their way to provide anything within their power to make their guests happy and comfortable. We didn't do much...... didn't need to. We got all the relaxation we needed sitting in our private pool, sipping on a gin and tonic, soaking up the beauty right on our doorstep. We will definitely be back!!!

Thank you so much for all those kind words. I am so glad you both enjoyed the relaxing vacation you so sorely needed. There were miles of smiles from Lucy and Baba, encouragement like that is absolutely priceless and inspires us all. We look forward to your next trip, the dipping pool awaits.

We spent a fantastic week at Makaira in the beginning of July. We stayed in the Marlin bure, which was a perfect size for a couple. Capt John, Roberta, Baba and all the staff look after you beautifully without being intrusive. Baba cooked us lovely breakfasts, especially his fruit smoothes and he was always willing to help with planning activities on the island. Lavena coastal walk, Bouma waterfalls and following locals down the natural waterslides are a must. Capt John and Baba took us out for a fishing trip, caught my first Wahoo! Other guests also caught fish while we were there so most nights we had fresh sashimi, Capt Johns' Sashimi platter is a must, our local restaurants will not measure up anymore! Roberta's knowledge and enthusiasm for local snorkeling was just fantastic, her snorkel tour by boat was the best snorkeling that we had ever done. When we chose to relax the plunge pool looking out over the sea was perfect. We can't wait to return... Thank you for all the laughs guys, we had a wonderful holiday!

Thank you so much for your kind words. We certainly enjoyed you both and we had some good fun while you were here. We look forward to seeing you again. If you want a repeat performance with the same guests, because you all got along so well, let me know and it will be like old home week.

This was my second trip to Makaira, and I already want to go back. I'm a college student and I'm determined to save my money to go back to Makaira (my uncle and his friend go every year). The fishing and snorkeling are world class. Roberta knows all the best reefs around the resort. John is a world class captain from Hawaii and knows all the best places to go fishing. The resort itself is well maintained and very clean/beautiful. All the workers are respectful and welcoming. I just hope that I can make it back next year because a stay at Makaira is a vacation plus an experience of a lifetime.

Makaira is a marvelous setting on the beautiful island of Taveuni. There is an opportunity to have whatever style of "vacation" you select, including peace and quiet, walking on the beach, snorkeling, fishing, dining and of course enjoying the nicest Fijian people who make each and every day just perfect. Since John was a "bit" under the weather, Baba made sure each detail of our visit was covered, including the most magnificent breakfasts! We loved the care given us by the Fijian ladies and appreciated the care given to the grounds by the others in the family.
We did not miss our cell phones, TV or computer!!! Too much beauty all around.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any they have.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for being so understanding while half of us were under the weather. We hope one day you both will be back so we can make up especially for the lost fishing time. John was so looking forward to fishing with you folks. I am sorry for the late reply apparently I must have not pushed the right button when I last replied.
