We had the good fortune of spending 28 nights at Lomani. We were scheduled to stay three more weeks, but a family emergency made it necessary to leave after one month. Lomani is exactly as pictured on the website. It is rustic, but that is what makes it so charming, If you are looking for a peaceful, private place to stay, Lomani is the perfect choice. Nox and Tukana (caretakers) will take excellent care of you. They were always available whenever we needed them. They were especially helpful when we needed to leave due to my father's medical emergency. They provided transportation to and from the airport. They also arranged for housekeeping services once a week for a nominal charge.
A phone for local calls was provided. This made it really easy to arrange for diving and to contact Nox or Tukana. If you purchase minutes, you can use the phone to call the US at a very reasonable rate.
There is a video on YouTube which accurately represents Lomani. Some of the conveniences we enjoyed included the infinity pool, washer, gas grill, two hammock type swings, TV, and a great supply of new movies on DVD. The outdoor shower was especially nice. At night the stars are so bright they look like Christmas lights in the sky. There is a large floor fan which keeps the bure comfortable during the day and for sleeping. There is mosquito netting for the king size bed, but we were never bothered by any bugs during our stay.
Saskia (owner) was incredible to work with when booking Lomani. She supplied the excellent selection of DVD movies for us. We had at least one new movie to watch each night. We even found popcorn at the market in the village.
During our stay the Prime Minister of Fiji was at the village to dedicate a new school. Nox made arrangements for us to attend. It was a highlight of our trip. We did our diving with Taveuni Ocean Sports which was a short five minute walk from Lomani. The diving was phenomenal to say the least. We were fortunate to dive every other day. We highly recommend them if you dive and plan to stay at Lomani. It is so convenient. Plus Taveuni Ocean Sports is simply the best dive operator we have ever encountered in our 20 years of diving.
If you want the opportunity to live a Fijian lifestyle with a million dollar view from your bure, Lomani is the place for you. You will never find nicer people than the Fijians on Taveuni. It was a trip of a lifetime for us, and Lomani was the perfect accommodation.
My Wife and I decided to travel to Fiji for our honeymoon, primarily for the diving on the Rainbow Reef. After several internet searches we decided on Lomani, primarily based on the reviews that the owner, Saskia, was very easy to book with and the breadth of information that was provided about the rental on Lomani's website. All the booking went very smooth and Saskia was very helpful in providing information and answering any questions that we had. Upon arrival to Taveuni, we were greeted by Nox (the caretaker's brother) and taken to Lomani. Our first impression was fantastic! The grounds were very lush with flowers, green grass, coconut palm trees, and other assorted fruit trees. The cottage and kitchen were very clean and ready for our use. The view from Lomani on the bluff overlooking the Somosomo Strait is gorgeous every evening. The water in the Somosomo Strait is also gorgeous and you can see parts of a small reef from Lomani looking down to the ocean. From an aesthetics view, you will not be disappointed with Lomani. If you do decide to stay at Lomani, be prepared to cook all meals for yourself, with the exception of some frendly offers by Jon Brown (Garden Caretaker), who will graciously offer to cook some Fijian meals for you to taste. Jon also provided a private Kava ceremony for just my wife and I on the deck one evening. Preparing all your meals is not difficult, you just have to plan for it. A large grocery store is a 3-4 minute drive to the south or a 10-15 minute bike ride with the mountain bikes provided at Lomani. The greatest contribution to our lovely experience at Lomani was the staff. They are all so kind and willing to show you how they live their life on Taveuni. They are always willing to help with rides into town or to Matei. Jon Brown even spent an entire afternoon with us showing us his farm and the local village. When trying to think of a reason why I would not recommend Lomani, I can't find one. To summarize, if you are looking for a very private, secluded place with amazing views Lomani is the place for you. Did I mentioned you get your own private pool? We spent several sunny afternoons after diving just relaxing in the pool. If you plan to dive, Taveuni Ocean Sports (highly recommended for their service) is a 5-minute walk down the road. We were very pleased with our stay at Lomani and would definitely recommend it for future travelers.
