This is a great place to visit the boats going through is wonderful to see and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Take a walk along the canal on either side and just enjoy..the staff who work here are informative and friendly

I think men may be more interested in this geat engineering feat, it is quite wonderful the work that went into it. There was a boat at the top lock waiting to come down and it would take almost 2 hours for the locks to open and close and then the road is swung open to let them through the bridge and this means it is closed to traffic for about an hour

Being a UK canal fan, this magnificent built staircase is an engineering wonder. The locks can take a shapes and sizes of vessels and most interesting to watch them navigate up or down the staircase. Time your visit to coincide with the passing of the Jacobite steam train (summer months only so check on line foe timetable) and you can watch the canal and the passing of a steam hauled train going to or coming back from Mallaig. In good warm weather, places to picnic and watch the waterway vessels pass you by.

I stayed for a few nights in the old lock-keepers house next to the Neptune's Staircase so had the grandstand seat to watching how it all works. The period we were there in August it was very busy with some large boats, including a big sailing ship, passing through. Fascinating to see how it works and to realise that it was all for nothing given the use it had been built for had vanished by the time it was all finished. Well worth a stop, particularly on a nice day.
