“Good to see it still works”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

When we visited found the area well groomed and the locks in operation, in fact followed the progress of a Boat ascending the lock. Preceeding the locks there are Two swing bridges, one road and the other rail was amazed to see everything coming to a halt whilst the system was operated. Enjoyed the walk in the sun following the Boats progress and the couple of pints at an adjacent hotel

“A wonder”

We were lucky enough to see the actual 'staircase' in action. If you time your visit you can also see the Jacobean steam tream pass through the nearby station.wonderful to see both the locks and railway working perfectly.

“Substantial ruins next to the river”

No entry fee for this surprisingly complete medieval castle. Storyboards around the site give good information on the history of the castle.

“A must see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

Neptune's staircase is a must when you are in Fort William. It is a set of locks taking boats up. There is a lovely walkway along the Caledonian canal as well. you can really get close to the locks and see the different water levels for yourself, amazing! If you go after sunset, which we did, you will be able to enjoy the bats as well. Wait until it gets almost dark and you can make amazing photos.

“Very Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

In the numerous visits I have made to Fort William and Malliag over the past 35 years I was aware of Neptune's Staircase but had never seen it. It is well worth a visit at least once.
