We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 7 years. After reading some of the more negative reviews I thought it was only fair to share my experiences.

The service is always excellent. Chris and Moya who run the hotel are always friendly and welcoming and regularly inform us of up and coming offers and speciality nights and weekends that the hotel offers. Amanda, Sue and other staff are amazing and would literally bend over backwards to help you out. One year we were a little late sorting out our getaway and Amanda worked tirelessly to find a three night stay for us (we needed two rooms) during the time we had off work. In one way I suppose this speaks for itself.... The hotel is very popular!!!

In terms of accommodation there is something to suit everyone. I prefer the more traditional rooms that are above the bar area. They have more of a 'suite' feel about them with arm chairs and a table making up a seating area. There is also a comfy double bed in these rooms and traditional pine furniture. My fiancé on the other hand prefers the modern rooms that have queen sized beds and an air conditioning/heating system that you can set to whatever temperature you want. We have stayed in many rooms in this hotel and have never had cause to complain. The rooms are always clean and comfortable and service always impecable. On one occasion there was a light bulb not working in our room, it was replaced in a matter of minutes. On another occasion we needed more towels, these were provided quickly. I think some of the negative comments about rooms on here must come from some very fussy people.

In terms of the restaurant and bar area, we have eaten and drank here on many an occasion. The food is good quality English food that is always served hot and with a smile. There are always specials to tempt you and great offers including surf and turf night on a Friday where you can get 2 meals for £12..... Value for money that cannot be beaten! The bar area is very traditional and cosy with two fires to keep you warm in the winter and a lovely patio area to enjoy in the summer.

The spa that is attached to the hotel is fantastic, and you can use all the facilities at no extra cost. The swimming pool is clean and well maintained, there is also a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi to relax in as well as a gym for the more active of you!

The hotel is well situated, you can walk to Caister beach in 5 minutes and reach many of the local shops in Caister in the same amount of time. In a car it takes about 10 minutes to drive to Great Yarmouth for more seaside fun or about 40 minutes to reach Norwich if you love shopping and city life!

All in all I would say this is the best hotel in this area! Come and experience it for yourself, it really is a home away from home for us. We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

We checked in at the bar which smells strongly of chlorine from the adjacent pool area. We were directed through a door marked "Toilets" but there was also a stairwell, overlooked by a boarded up window, which leads to rooms. Our room was spacious, featuring two armchairs, a desk, a TV, a coffee table, a bathroom and a separate toilet. But it was badly in need of renovation and decoration - the carpet was stained and worn, the armchairs worn, the toilet lock missing, and there were old looking sheets and blankets rather than a duvet. It was very difficult to get the shower to run at any temperature apart from very hot or very cold. The shower fitting was partly broken, and even if it hadn't been broken, it would have been too low for a male of normal height.

Our room had a view of the neighbouring Lidl's ventilation shafts.

The staff were generally friendly but a lightbulb that was reported broken in a fellow guest's room had still not been replaced after two nights and a further request. The fire alarm went off at 8.20am on Sunday morning. The staff said "That will wake them up" and "false alarm" but did not apologise or explain.

Breakfast featured a choice of cereals, real coffee, concentrated juices, and a cooked English breakfast. The scrambled eggs were overcooked; the poached were much better.

The beach is a ten minute walk away - it's sandy with views of an offshore windfarm. Caister has nothing else to recommend it that we could find.

Our faith in Tripadvisor has been shaken by the positivity of the other reviews of this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms in the new part of the hotel are nicer and more modern. Ours were in the old part, above t...

Stayed at hotel whilst visiting relatives in the area. This hotel offers a lot for a very competative price. Good car parking and easy to access all local main routes. Offers King size beds with tea , coffee, chocolate drink and biscuits in its rooms. Run by the owner and has a team of very friendly staff. Heavily used by the business community and can be difficult to get a booking. Restaurant offers pub style meals which are good value for money. Has an excellent spa and swimming pool associated with the hotel.

Room Tip: Select room in new part of hotel, room old part are over the bar area.

My friend booked us in for a spa experience, and it was brilliant! We picked two treatments each and the therapists are really lovely, and accommodating. We both felt so relaxed and didn't want to leave. We made use of the pool (very clean! Managed to see underwater very clearly!), sauna, and my only downside is that when we got into the hydro pool there was a guy in there which was fine, until two of his friends decided to make it a little too cosy, and soon we were out. For the whole hour we were in there so were they so we enjoyed a long swim instead. Really annoying thing though is that as we left they were all getting out gr!

Overall, our experience was lovely, and I would definitely go back!

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights after searching the Internet for a hotel with a pool at super prices. We stayed in rm 27 which had a king size bed and two single beds, air conditioning and plenty of room. The room was very clean and plenty of tea&coffee,we even had biscuits. The breakfast was lovely and the staff very helpful and polite,it was a pity we didn't meet the owner to express our comments. The pool was excellent for my daughter just a pity she couldnt go in after 6pm but wasn't a problem.I was very impressed with the bar prices not expensive at all.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and when booking Amanda was 100% helpful.
I think the bad review John gave was unfair!

We haven't stayed at the Old Hall but have used the restaurant which is open to non residents. The carvery is excellent value and quality, children are catered for and there is a wide selection of beers and wines available. The surroundings inside and outside are really attractive and pleasant.

Friendly staff, but the place is tired - there's a leisure complex attached, which my room was above, and as a result my room was noisy from door slamming and the sound of running water through pipes it also smelt of chlorine from the pool, the view from my room was a wall about 3 feet away.
The bathroom floor is worn and dirty and the single sachets of soap and shampoo were impossible to open (bad batch i guess) the bathroom had a clingy shower curtain which had seen better days and the room just felt grubby. Breakfast was tolerable but i would not choose to eat here.

Room Tip: I would not choose to stay here again
